The Nursing Division of Graylands Hospital is committed to the professional development of nurses. It is our belief that the transition period is a time for the Beginning Practitioner to consolidate his/her knowledge and become proficient in the safe delivery of patient care. We believe that this can be accomplished most effectively by providing the individual with a variety of clinical experiences in an environment of care, supervision, and support.

Overall:
Like all psychiatric hospitals, you get your share of good nurses amoungst the "bad ones". The occupational therapy programs are very good and keep patients busy. They have a gym which can be used by patients.Too many students Many nurses are burnt out Many of the psychiatrists are in training and appear to be very inexperineced The psychiatrists keep you longer than necessary compared to other hospitals A part of Graylands is the Franklin Unit - which is the forensic unit. When criminals have done their time in Franklin, they are placed onto the voluntary wards - other patients unaware that they are sharing a room with a person who has done time for serious crimes, eg homicide Complaints aren't resolved effectively. Eg, A male patient walked into my bathroom while I was showering and tried to get at me - after the incident, although there were many nurses who said the patient should be moved to an all male ward, the patient remained in the same ward as me. Sometimes when a bed is needed in a particular ward, you get moved to another ward. One time I was moved four times to different wards within four months. The majority of birds that inhabit the grounds are crows and they make a lot of noise which gets irritating. This hospital in comparison with others I have been in seems very big on medications - hence why you see so many patients walking the grounds dribbling and oblivious to the world around them. This hospital would have to be one of the worst hospitals for treating psyhciatric patients.
