Wiluna is situated 950km north east of Perth and 530 km north of Kalgoorlie. The town is serviced by a sealed road from Leinster 188km to the south which goes through to Kalgoorlie and an unsealed road to Meekatharra 188km to the west.
Both the Canning Stock Route from Halls Creek to the north and the Gun barrel Highway 700km to the east from Warburton Ranges, meet in Wiluna.

Wiluna is situated near a natural freshwater lake, Lake Violet. An adjacent lake, Lake Way was where large quantities of gold were found in the late 1890's and the establishment of Wiluna town began with that discovery. Underground mining developed a population reaching 10 000 people in 1930, but this dwindled to the present numbers after WW2.
In the 1980's open-cut mining re-established the gold industry in several locations around and near Wiluna. These mines are serviced by fly in fly out miners. Little employment for the mines comes from Wiluna.

Because of its history, Wiluna is a gazetted town with a Shire structure and at the same time operates as an Indigenous Community.

The town has a residential population of about 350 people. The population is predominantly Aboriginal.
Most students come from town and the largest Community at Bondini about 6km east. Some students come from Emu Farm 10km north east and Kutkabubba Community 36 km north. A school bus run provided transport to these students.

The Indigenous language of the area is Martuwangka. This is being taught by traditional teachers in all classrooms to every student. Most students speak English or Aboriginal English
School Structure

The school caters for four year olds through to year 12 with an on site Pre-Primary Centre, three Primary classes, a year 8/9 class and a 10 - 12 WACE class. Wiluna RCS is a strong Aboriginal Literacy Strategy school and runs this in all classes to year 9.

The new school facility was completed in December 2007 and is very well designed and resourced. The Wiluna community, Staff and students are very proud of the new school.

In 2008 Wiluna RCS has a P&C committee as well as continuing the School Council. The P&C meets twice every term and the School Council will meet towards the end of each term. We are very aware of the importance of effective community partnerships and work to involve our community at every oportunity.

At Wiluna Remote Community School we endeavour to ensure all students can attend school in a safe and inclusive learning environment and reach their academic and social potential.
