| North Mandurah Education Support Centre is one of two primary level Education Support Centres in Mandurah. The school was established in 1992 and is on the same site as North Mandurah Primary School. The school is attended by children from all over the Mandurah area, who are transported by contract bus service. The school was originally built with three classrooms a therapy room and a purpose built shower and laundry area. In 1998 a Resource Room was added to the centre. North Mandurah ESC has worked closely with the Primary school to develop an educational environment that strives for the highest possible outcomes for all students. A team of highly skilled staff provide balanced, comprehensive programs aimed at meeting students' individual needs in all 8 learning areas. Subjects such as Maths, Reading, Writing and Spelling are taught in small homogenous groups providing a positive structured environment for learning. Whilst subjects such as Science and Art are taught in larger groups so that students have the opportunity to learn cooperative group and social skills. Specialist programs such as Physical Education, Japanese, Music and Computer also add a further dimension to the educational program offered to all students at North Mandurah ESC. North Mandurah ESC has access to a Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist to service the needs of students who require therapy. The therapists work closely with teachers and integrate therapy into class programs such as sport and language activities wherever possible. All programs are developed and reviewed collaboratively, with input from parents and relevant staff, including teachers, therapists and the school psychologist. Staff also work in conjunction with North Mandurah Primary School teachers to provide meaningful and successful opportunities for students to integrate with mainstream peers. The school enjoys a close working relationship with the primary school. Examples of this can be found in our combined P & C and School Council and the success of our Integration Program. We believe that we can best meet the needs of the students at North Mandurah Primary and ESC when we work together. Many programs operate across both sites and involve staff and students from both schools working collaboratively. This is reinforced in our motto 'TOGETHER WE SUCCEED'. | ||||
