Students come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds, which include Aboriginal communities and immigrant families. Planning for our schools has been influenced by both Deaf and hearing communities. The diversity of cultures has encouraged the school to welcome and value the current program. Co-Enrolment is the placement of deaf children in hearing classes using a team teaching approach. Deaf and hearing students share all classroom experiences together. Mosman Park Primary and School for Deaf Children are committed to the provision of a stimulating, safe environment where each child has the opportunity to fully develop academic, social, emotional, physical and creative skills. It has a wonderful ethos of being a caring and friendly community centred school that has many outstanding features and is held in high regard by its parent community as a centre of learning excellence. The parents and Deaf educators have been the motivating factor behind the establishment of a new Bilingual/Bicultural Co-Enrolment Program at Mosman Park Primary School. This is an inclusive, innovative model, which improves the learning and social outcomes of Deaf and hard of hearing students. Most Deaf students are fully included into hearing classrooms with a regular Primary Teacher and a Teacher of the Deaf. There is also provision for small group and individual sessions with a specialist Teacher of the Deaf. Students use Auslan as the first language and English as a second language. (CODAS) Hearing students from Deaf families are enrolled at the school. Teachers and students who have Deaf children in their class are learning Auslan and are part of a Deaf Studies Program. Speech lessons are offered for those children who wear hearing aids or have cochlear implants. All staff are experienced Teachers of the Deaf with a range service to fifteen years. The Centre employs Teacher Assistants and Interpreters who are fluent in Auslan (Australian Sign Language).
