The Menzies School opened it's doors in 1898 in Shenton Street and a permanent school was built on site in Gregory Street later in the same year.

The town is situated 130kms north of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and 110kms south of Leonora, serving a mining, pastoral and local Aboriginal community.

The school is composed of one main building, which houses two classrooms, an office and staff room. A library consists of a S.I.D.E. telematics area, home economics room, teacher resource room, bathroom for the health/hygiene program and laundry/laminating room. A Kindergarten/Pre-Primary classroom was completed last year which is also utilised by the Best Start program. A demountable building serves as the secondary students classroom. The grounds also contain an ablution block, lunch shed, under cover areas and a new playground.

100 percent of the school student population are of Aboriginal descent with 25 students at Menzies school working in multi-age settings from Kindergarten to Year 9. An annex at Morapoi which is an Aboriginal community 53 kilometres north of Menzies, consists of one classroom catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 7 and opened in 2003. Eleven students are attending this facility.

Strong community involvement at both Menzies and the Morapoi annex has seen parents involved in a range of community partnerships with the school, including participating in an Art Outreach project through Curtin University in Kalgoorlie, teaching L.O.T.E. (Wangkutha) and assisting with training of students for sporting events. Students have experienced success both academically and on the sporting field, winning the inter-school carnival this year, writing competitions (two students having their stories published commercially) and art competitions. All students have been involved in working with parents, staff and community members through a Technology and Enterprise program in developing values of social and civic responsibility, respect and concern for others and their rights and respect of self.
