| Maddington Education Support Centre is a level three facility located in a former market gardening area on Albany Highway. Located on a shared campus, the school is nestled behind its partner school, Maddington Primary School and in front of a copse of eucalyptus trees, and is surrounded by expansive playing fields. Together the two schools are called Maddington School. Shared behaviour management procedures and the running of joint social skills programmes such as Self Esteem and Citizenship (SEAC) and PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) the combined P&C Committees and School Council, reflect the whole school approach to inclusivity. Integration opportunities offered assist the social-emotional development of our students as they learn alongside their mainstream peers and foster a team spirit amongst staff from both schools. Two Centre classrooms have relocated into two wings of the primary school, with two primary school classes relocating to the centre. Cross integration is occurring with primary school students with learning needs attending the Centre for core subjects in the morning. Year seven classes from both schools combine in the afternoons. Several of the teachers from both schools have also elected to team teach, where appropriate. The school currently caters for twenty-six students with varying degrees of intellectual disabilities, a number of whom are autistic. Other students enrolled in the centre have specific medical conditions, including severe allergies(anaphylaxis), dysphagia, muscular dystrophy, cerebal palsy epilepsy and hearing and vision impairments. The school is purpose built to include three classrooms, a self-care facility, a kitchen, therapy room and a laundry. Individual Education Plans are developed in consultation with parents/carers and relevant agencies and the school offers quality-learning programs accordingly to provide for the individual needs of students. Small group instruction in multi-aged ability groupings (MAGS), the inclusion of a community access programme promoting road safety and the generalising of social skills into community settings are features of the school. Centre staff include teaching and non-teaching staff, all of whom are committed to meeting the academic and emotional needs of the students. The 5.1 FTE teaching staff includes the Principal. The non-teaching staff includes a 0.5 Registrar, 4.1 FTE Education Assistants and 0.1 Library Assistant. | ||||
