| Karratha Education Support Centre: The school motto is: 'Our school works towards making us STRONG and INDEPENDENT so we can feel and be proud of the things we do and who we are'. The school works with families and the community to assist and provide excellent educational and social opportunities for all students. Students at the Education Support Centre come from both indigenous and non indigenous backgrounds. Karratha Education Support Centre is on the same campus as Karratha Primary School. It is a separate school with its own resourcing and staff but is located on the regular school site to allow for maximum inclusion. It is the policy of both Karratha Primary School and Karratha Education Support Centre to maximise opportunities for all students to socialize and learn together. Students are able to participate in selected classes at Karratha Primary School and to be fully involved in the school life offered on the shared school campus. Some students also return to their home or local intake school for lessons amongst their local neighbourhood peers. We fully support students in an inclusive education suited to their individual needs. The Centre works closely with Disability Services and local therapists. Karratha Education Support Centre is very well resourced. This has been ensured by the significant level of assistance provided by local service clubs and local industry. There is an active School Council and parents are members of the Parent School Partnership Initiative Committee at Karratha Primary School. Highlights of the year to date have been: * The continuing of the successful Specialist Art Program with the artists from Bujee Nhoor Pu art Studio and talented Karratha Primary School art students. * The continued achievement of students reaching their academic and behavioural goals through participation in specialist programs for students with Autism, FASD, ABI or challenging behaviours. * The establishment of a supported playgroup for families with young children with special needs. * Developing each students swimming skills and water safety through our specialist swimming lessons in terms 1 and 4 * The success of students in the Early Intervention Kindy and Pre-Primary Programme. Students have learnt essential skills within structured classes and spent time developing social skills within the regular Karratha Primary School Early Childhood classrooms and playground. * The continued provision of specialist professional development training for all staff to fully develop their skills to cater for the individual needs of each child who enrols at the school. Eligible students from the Roebourne Shire are able to enrol at Karratha Education Support Centre. We have produced a comprehensive Information Pack which may be obtained by contacting the school. Students travel to school on bus services provided by the Department of Transport and local bus companies. | ||||
