School Profile

Kalamunda Education Support Centre shares its site with Kalamunda Primary School, and both schools are surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and lush bush land. Many students access the school bus service provided through the Public Transport Authority free of charge travelling from within Kalamunda and as far as Swan View, Jane Brook and Bellevue; whilst others participate in the out of school program provided on site for all Kalamunda students.

Staff of KESC are well trained and experienced in designing and delivering programs that meet the diverse need of its entire student population.

KESC staff value their relationships with family and work to build strong channels of communication. In turn, families support the school in its endeavour to provide ongoing valuable and appropriate programs for all students and families.

Each KESC student has an Individual Education Plan that covers the 8 learning areas as prescribed in the Curriculum Framework. There is also a determination that students will become independent in managing their daily needs and be responsible for their behaviour. In addition to an academic curriculum KESC also offers specialised programs to meet the global educational needs of each and every student.

These programs may include:

- Community Access Program
- Cooking and shopping program
- Augmented and Assisted Communication including Makaton and PECS
- Gymnastics Program
- Variety of Therapy Programs provided by and in conjunction with Therapy Focus
- Sensory Integration Program - school priority for 2007 and 2008
- TEACCH program (room 20 set up according to this model and implemented by trained TEACCH teacher)
- 123 Magic - behaviour intervention program across home and school (parent trainer on site)

KESC has its own wheelchair accessible minibus, kindly provided through Variety WA. The bus allows students' access to the wider community and all it has to offer educationally.

All staff and families of KESC are extremely proud of their school and the educational experiences they provide for each student. They work as a cohesive team in the centre and with their peers in the Primary School. Everyone is always made to feel welcome when visiting us in this positive and exciting educational environment.

KESC staff and families believe that interested families should have opportunity to investigate their options, so invite them to contact the Principal, Ms Jarna Craig and make an appointment to visit.
