Gascoyne Junction Remote Community School is located in the Upper Gascoyne Shire 160 klms from Carnarvon on the Gascoyne River. The school reopened in 2005 with 12 students, all of whom participated in School of the Air at the Gascoyne Junction Education Centre (old school) or at home. Numbers have increased to 18 students. There is planning for several more houses to be built in the community with an expectation that this will bring more students to the school in 2007.

The school comprises two modern classrooms (transportable) and a spacious office, staffroom and meeting room. The grounds are spacious with a large grassed playground area and play equipment.

The school has two classes operating, K-7 and 8-12, with two teachers, two teacher assistants and an AIEO, Registrar and a part time library officer. The gardener/cleaner works a total of 30hours per week.

The school is very well resourced with good access to computers using the laptop trolley. Both classes have good access to digital cameras, video camera, digital projector, TV & video and a good range of 'hands on' equipment. The library is fully automated with the children beginning to use it for reference and borrowing. A community borrowing system is planned.

Students attending Gascoyne Junction Remote Community School live in or around the town with two students travelling from outlying stations. The school caters for students from K-12 with high school being provided through SIDE. Students in year 10 are offered School Based Traineeships and study Certificate 1 in Workplace Readiness.

The school community is very supportive of the school through the Aboriginal Parent Awareness Group and P&C. Both of these groups have been very generous in assisting with the establishment of the grounds and playground equipment; purchase of uniforms for sale; assisting with food programs to develop healthier opportunities for school lunches and participation in NAIDOC.

The school community actively supports the Upper Gascoyne Shire's Building Healthy Communities project and provides Active After School Community sports program for the children. Through this project the school has been involved in many social and cultural activities within the community.
