| CATCHMENT AREA AND COMMUNITY Eastern Goldfields Education Support Centre (EG ESC) shares a dual site campus with Eastern Goldfields College(EG)and Kalgoorlie Boulder Community High School (KBCHS). The Middle school campus site is located atthe Kalgoorle Boulder Community High School in Boomerang Crescent, Kalgoorlie. The school caters for students in Years 8 - 10. The senior school is co-located on the Curtin University of Technology campus close to the main Kalgoorlie shopping precinct in the centre of Kalgoorlie. The senior school caters for students in years 11 & 12. Students from Kalgoorlie, Boulder, Coolgardie and Kambalda attend the Education Support Centre. Some of these students travel to school utilising the general school bus service provided by Goldenlines Bus Service. Others use a specialised transport service provided by the Department of Transport. Eastern Goldfields Education Support Centre caters for students with mild, moderate and severe intellectual disabilities. The student population is varied, in that some of the students' families are well established Goldfielders, while other students are only recent arrivals brought to the city due to parent work commitments. Kalgoorlie-Boulder is a large regional city with many facilities available. The city and surrounding towns have a predominately mining focus. The region also has a proud pastoral history.STAFFING The school has a Principal and is well resourced in terms of teaching and non-teaching staff, facilities and resources. Education Support teachers and education assistants are deployed across the middle and senior school site, to ensure programs targeted to meet the specific needs of individual students result in optimum outcomes for each student. Education Support staff play a crucial role in liaising with, as well as supporting, mainstream staff who work with ESC students integrated into mainstream classes.SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE SCHOOL Eastern Goldfields College is co-located with Curtin University of Technology. Education Support Centre Year 11 and 12 students and staff moved to the Curtin site at the commencement of the 2001 school year to join their mainstream peers who relocated during the 2000 school year. The senior campus ESC has a designated flexible learning area, garden and bathroom facility which is predominately utilised by our high needs students. In addition to this, ESC students together with their mainstream peers utilise timetabled classrooms and a range of facilities across the campus. The middle school ESC has its own functional learning area and two specialised classrooms. Students also have access to the range of facilities available on the shared site, which they use frequently, particularly during integration classes. Our learning environment encourages each student to strive to reach their full potential and to accept their fellow students' capabilities and unique qualities. Teaching staff and parents specifically identify each student's needs. An Individual Education Plan is then developed and implemented to meet these needs. All ESC staff, high school staff, outside agencies and local employers work together to provide appropriate learning experiences that will enhance each student's social, emotional, physical and academic development. The school focus of 'Enterprise Through Integrated Studies' has resulted in the creation of a virtual workplace called 'The Sandwich Machine'. This enterprise allows students from years 10 - 12 experience a work environment within the centre. These students make and sell up to 40 lunches every Wednesday to staff at the Senior Campus and many local businesses. This program has been recognised locally and nationally. Middle school students are also working on smaller in-school business enterprises. SCHOOL DECISION MAKING Individual staff members are represented on various decision-making bodies. All ESC staff are involved in making decisions with regard to the school priorities and future directions. Eastern Goldfields Education Support Centre has an established School Council which meets twice a term. | ||||
