| Cannington Community Education Support Centre (ESC) caters for approximately 100 secondary aged students at our Cannington Community College (CCC) and Sevenoaks Senior College (SSC) sites. Students attend CCC for years 8-10 and SSC for years 11 and 12. Cannington Community ESC is part of the broader Cannington Education precinct, located near Carousel Shopping Centre some 12 kms from the CBD. The school commenced in 2001 and has state of the art facilities and grounds, an extensive information technology infrastructure with well equipped classrooms, therapy rooms and service areas. Student enrolment has increased every year since inception. Parents appreciate the facilities but it is our culture and programs they see as most important. Relationships are the key to our approach. We have high expectations of and for our students and work in partnership with parents and others to provide authentic and relevant programs. We are a local merit select school whereby we can select our staff. Many staff have been with school since its inception. They value diversity, inclusiveness and believe they can make a difference. Most teaching staff have specialist qualifications or are undertaking further tertiary study. Our non-teaching staff consisting of education assistants, office staff and social trainers and are integral members of the team. The Centre also utilizes staff from our partner schools to enrich the curriculum as well as resourcing the student service and learning technologies teams at our partner schools. Cannington Community ESC provides Individual Education Plans for all of its students. The school maintains a focus upon the development of Functional Literacy and Numeracy, Independent living, Recreation and Leisure and Career Education. Programs are tailored to meet student needs with a number of students completing Curriculum Council or TAFE courses successfully. The balanced curriculum is valued by the students who report high satisfaction with the school, staff and programs. We have retention rates of 95th many students remaining at school till the year they turn 18. We follow up with our past students over the years to check on their progress. Results are very encouraging with most students finding and keeping employment. It is most gratifying when they come back for a visit. Students are provided with programs in the most educationally enhancing environment, often alongside their age appropriate peers. A significant proportion of learning takes place in the local and wider community. All students participate in work experience type programs with enterprise and vocational education being the lynchpin that drives our curriculum. We regularly have students receiving awards at the VET in Schools Awards as has the school for its innovative programs and quality teaching. Cannington Community ESC is immensely proud of it's developing reputation, it's partnerships with the local community, but most of all the students who show, given the opportunity, that they can and do achieve wonderful things and contribute to their community. | ||||
