It is located in the Kimberley District and is within driving distance of several popular tourist sights.THE COMMUNITY:
There are five communities within the catchment area of Bayulu Primary School.

Bayulu Community
The original makeshift community of Bayulu was located approximately 400 metres from the school site. The current Bayulu Community, 5km by road, was built by the State Housing Authority and first occupied in 1978, with the majority of houses being completed by early 1980. The houses are fibro and equipped with solar hot water systems. In 2006/7 the community received several new houses. The community has an office, well stocked store, workshop, hall, health clinic, basketball courts, park and playground. The Community has sealed roads, kerbs and well lit streets. The children attend school by bus.

Joy Springs (Eight Mile) Community
Joy Springs Community was established in 1984 and is located 8.5 kilometres east of Bayulu, 4 kilometres off the highway. There are several modern houses mainly constructed in tin and rammed earth. The children attend school by bus.

Gillarong Community
Gillarong Community was established in 1987. It is situated on a hillside adjacent to Bayulu and consists of several family groups living in a seven permanent houses. The children attend school by bus.

Karnparrmi (Three Mile) Community
Karnparrmi Community was established in 1991. It is situated three kilometres east of Bayulu and consists of several houses. The children attend school by bus.

Ngalingkadji Community
Ngalingkadji Community was established in 1988. It is situated 68 kilometres east of Bayulu, some 10 kilometres along the track to Cherrabun and consists of several houses. During 1993 children from Ngalingkadji began attending Bayulu Primary School regularly with parents providing transportation. The Department of Education now supplies a bus service.

The communities are supportive of the school. They have strong cultural ties and are eager to share their culture with staff and students through the school.
The isolation of the area can cause some problems especially during the wet season at the beginning of the year when flooding often occurs. The Principal is accommodated on the school site in the original house and teaching staff are located in Fitzroy Crossing and drive across to school in private vehicles. Occasionally the Fitzroy River breaks its banks and access by road is cut off. However, the children are still able to get in and staff are flown or shipped in and stay with the principal until the road is reopened.

THE SCHOOL:
Bayulu is a Class 3 Primary School in the Kimberley District. It was the first station school established in the state, beginning in a cave on the hillside on 18th February 1957, with teacher accommodation being provided by the station. In 1962 the Department of Education constructed a single classroom and teacher accommodation on the existing site. Since then an additional 6 classrooms have been built and in 2000 a new administration building was added. The school also has a small library and 3 small resource stores and a new undercover area over the basket ball court.

The school caters for 125 children from K-7, all of whom are Aboriginal. Their first language is Kriol with some Gooniyandi and Walmajarri being spoken. Standard Australian English is the children's second language.

Bayulu Primary School constantly works to enhance the participation of parents in school decision making and policy setting through formal committees such as the School Council. There are several informal activities promoting parent participation such as assemblies, home visits, movie nights and open days. Parents are always welcome to visit the school with their children.

The current school hours for Bayulu Primary School are 7:50am to 2:00pm with all children being bused in to school.
