| Bullsbrook District High School was opened in 1952 as a primary school. Since then it has been reclassified first as a junior high and then a district high school. The school offers a wide range of programs for students from kindergarten through to year 12. The school provides a friendly and caring environment for students in which they can develop and grow without the need to change to a different school at any stage.|
The school is divided into three main sectors: kindergarten to year 6, middle school years 7-9 and senior school years 10-12. It is the largest district high school in the State and is unique in the range of age groups and programs it is able to offer. The school is the hub of a widespread community. It is the only school on the coastal strip between Wanneroo and Geraldton to offer a range of upper school courses, including TEE, Wholly School Assessed and Vocational Education and Training. There are 33 classes in years K-10, and the senior school is growing and retaining students at a steady rate. The middle school has been highly successful in retaining and attracting students and enjoys an excellent reputation.
The primary sector has Primary Extension and Challenge programs as well as a host of very successful strategies to enable all students to develop to their potential. It has specialist teachers in music, LOTE, computing and physical education. Year 7 students access the specialist learning areas of the secondary school and all years from 7 to 10 have an academic extension group. The VET programs offered in senior school enjoy an enviable reputation and also attract students from out of area. The school offers 5 TEE subjects and runs a comprehensive upper school program.
In 2005 the school became involved in the Family Links Program with the appointment of a School Based Community Liaison Officer. It now offers a playgroup program for 3-year old children to facilitate adjustment to kindergarten, and also to assist parents with early identification and intervention strategies.
The school has an excellent community library it shares with the City of Swan. It has recently had an upgrade to the secondary administration facilities and to the design and technology department and the whole school is fully air conditioned. The old woodwork room has been upgraded to an outstanding visual arts facility.
Rapid growth in the area has doubled the population of the school in the last 10 years. In recognition of this, and the need to provide new buildings and facilities, the school has been allocated $7 million as the first stage of a redevelopment program. Wide consultation has taken place with the community to develop a master plan for the next 15 years. Plans are well developed and it is hoped the new buildings will be opened for the commencement of the 2007 school year. The school has an exciting future.
