| Canterbury Girls' Secondary College, established in 1928, has built and maintained a reputation for excellence in the provision of all-girls education from Years 7-12. Located in Canterbury, a quiet, residential suburb within the City of Boroondara, only 8 km from the Central Business District, the college is well served by public transport. Enrolment is maintained at around 930 students with waiting lists at all year levels. The Mission of Canterbury Girls' Secondary College is to encourage learning excellence, focused ambition and pride in being female. The principles of partnership, support and responsibility are used to foster high levels of achievement and satisfaction. Valued college traditions develop a sense of continuity and identity for students and teachers. The College is also committed to promoting leadership skills in a learning environment based on co-operation, self-discipline and concern for others. A dynamic curriculum which features ongoing, collaborative evaluation of college programs to meet the changing needs of students provides rigour and challenge in all eight Key Learning Areas. The commitment of a well-qualified and experienced staff underpins the delivery of programs using inclusive learning and teaching practices. The design and development of a broad curriculum is supported by ongoing professional learning by all staff. At Years 7 and 8 students undertake a core program in all eight Key Learning Areas with the LOTE program including a choice of Japanese, German or French. An innovative program operates at Years 9 and 10 that permits student choice while ensuring balance and breadth. Access to VCE studies is encouraged. Our high retention rate permits the provision of units of study at VCE from all Learning Areas. Student numbers at Years 11 and 12 enable girls to design coherent VCE programs from a wide selection of units of study across all Learning Areas. Students also have access to Dual Recognition and Monash Enhancement Programs. The needs of girls are catered for by the provision of a range of enrichment and extension programs and support for students with special learning needs. | ||||
