| Camberwell High School began in 1941, with over 350 girls and boys, and enjoys a reputation that has led to a higher demand for places than the school can accommodate. It is a forward-looking school with a wonderful legacy of multi-storeyed cream brick buildings and facilities on an impressive site, a Gallery of Fame, ongoing traditions of House activities. cultural richness, high academic achievement, and excellent modern facilities. In a location and era of fierce competition between schools, C.H.S. enjoyed an increase in student enrolments of 40% between 1995 and 2001, and now has capped its total enrolment at around 1200 students. The students are the key element in a remarkably harmonious and thoroughly multicultural community, with a majority of boys owing to the closeness of so many girls schools. The number of girls continues to rise and the ratio of boys to girls in the Senior School is 2:1, with girls achievement equal to that of girls-only schools. The schools catchment area is extensive and well served by public transport. The schools curriculum offers comprehensive experiences in the eight Learning Areas via core and electives with three LOTEs [Languages other than English], university Enhancement courses at V.C.E., acceleration into V.C.E. for Year 10 and Year 11 students, and an outstanding Sport program for Years 7 - 10. Camberwell High School students enjoy considerable success in international and national academic competitions. Co-curricular opportunities include public speaking, active participation in our excellent music program via our orchestra, bands and ensembles, in dramatic and musical productions, intra and inter-school sport [7 12], excursions, tours, camps and overseas trips.
