| Balmoral is a small town located in the south west of Victoria, west of the Grampians Mountains. The Glenelg river runs through the town and the nearby Rocklands Reservoir is a popular venue for tourists interested in fishing, camping and water sports. The town, which has a population of approximately 200, services the surrounding farming communities. The main product of the region is fine wool, along with cattle, prime lambs and crops such as wheat, oats and canola. Recently, a mineral sands mine has commenced operation in the district. Balmoral High School is located 1.5 kilometres from the town itself, in a picturesque setting of farming land and red gum trees. The school was established in 1968 in temporary premises, and the present building was opened in 1975. The open plan design of the school was one of only two built in Victoria. With a student population hovering in the eighties, the school is proud of its motto "The Best Little School in Victoria". In recent years there have been no classes larger than 21 students, with small numbers in VCE classes. The vast majority of students travel to school by bus. Balmoral High School aims to be a community of enthusiastic and committed learners who care for each other and for their local and global communities. The school seeks to provide a high quality education in a relaxed and safe learning environment, while striving for continuous improvement in every aspect of its operations.
