| Founded in 1959, and built on spacious grounds, Yokine Primary School is located 5km north of the Perth CBD. The school enjoys excellent teaching facilities, including a purpose built Pre-Primary centre, a large well resourced library and a modern fully equipped computer laboratory. A privately run out of school care facility is located on-site in the large hall that adjoins the undercover assembly area and the P&C operated canteen. In 2006 the enrolment comprises about 270 students formed into ten classes from Kindergarten to Year 7. Yokine Primary School takes pride in its willingness and ability to embrace individual and group diversity. The student population includes children from many cultural backgrounds and a range of socio-economic situations. A significant number of students with disabilities are enrolled at Yokine. These students integrate into the mainstream classes where they fully access the curriculum and participate in all activities. The school is a fine example of inclusivity in practice. Specific programmes that support the curriculum include Peer Mediation, the School Volunteer Programme, inter-school chess and debating competitions and the Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools Competition. Senior students regularly attain scholarships to independent schools or are offered places in the specialist programmes in local government secondary schools. This reflects the loyalty, dedication and experience of the school staff. Community involvement is a feature of the school. There is a very active P&C which organised a highly successful fete in 2003 that raised $10,000.00 for the school. In 2006 a survey of parents indicated that specific features that they liked about the school included: The friendly and approachable staff The small size The effective behaviour management policy The positive school spirit In 2006 Yokine Primary School opened an on-site Kindergarten with an enrolment of two classes of 20 students each. This development will result in a gradual increase in the school's enrolment in future years. | ||||
