| Yealering Primary School is an inspiring rural school nestled between three larger centres, Corrigin, Narrogin and Pingelly in the heart of the upper great southern wheatbelt. The school stands out as you drive into the town. Its attractive gardens and well maintained exterior are a drawing feature. However, it is the great community spirit that lies within that is the heart of the school. Innovative, integrated projects and education are a feature of the school's curriculum. The students are focussed; behaviour is exemplary and academic standards high. The school is a typical four classroom, linear design inclusive of teacher work facilities and resource rooms. The original school, built in 1910, still stands and acts as the library. The Parents & Citizens (P&C)Committee are active, committed and continue to contribute to the school, both financially and by way of voluntary work. The P&C has strived to have air conditioning, a wealth of resources and up to date computers in all classrooms - with a ratio of 1:2 computers in the senior classroom. With the arrival of the administration building, the old staffroom has been transformed to focus on providing a science and cooking area. The school boasts a tennis/basketball court, a grassed school oval, a turf 'soccer' field, gazebos and extensive playground equipment for all ages, including an outdoor chess board. The grounds are a picturesque and make the school an inviting, pleasant place. The school enrolment has grown from 30 students in 2000 to 72 students in 2006. Current enrolments stand at 55 students in 2008. Most of the children travel to and from school by bus from surrounding farms or walk from the town. The people in the community are friendly, warmly welcoming and are committed to their community and school. The small, neat township is situated beside Lake Yealering and boasts many sporting facilities such as bowling greens, a golf course and tennis courts. It has a local store, garage and a pub. Students at the school have the benefit of multi-age grouped classes and low class sizes. A feature of the school is that teachers are dedicated to providing the best possible education to each individual, including a strong pastoral care focus. The school has a well established specialist Arts programme, tennis coaching and an environmental programme that includes being Waste & Water wise. The students have been involved in some exciting integrated technology programmes including an 'e-pals' and website design. Students are active in organising special events to raise money for different charities, including a young student who had a liver transplant and orphanages in Africa. The students also continue to raise funds for the bi-annual Canberra camp and other specialist outings throughout the year. Yealering Primary School promotes the Friendly Schools Friendly Families Program across the whole school with support from parents and the wider community. This encompasses the Values & Virtues projects. Community involvement in the school is high with parents and community members giving their time to be involved in educational programmes, sporting events, camps, fundraising events and environmental projects. The active School Council is made up of school and parent representatives and is involved in whole school collaborative planning and decision making. Parent participation and involvement in decision making is highly valued at Yealering. Positive, engaged students, committed and involved teachers, dedicated hard working non-teaching staff and a supportive community that values education makes Yealering a wonderful school. | ||||
