| The suburb of Woodlands was developed in the late 1950's and early 1960's. The suburb's design features numerous cul-de-sacs and many streets which carry little 'through' traffic, and an emphasis has been placed on the pleasing development of lake, parkland and play areas. As the name 'Woodlands' suggests most streets carry the names of trees. Forward planning saw many trees retained at the school site and throughout the suburb, providing the school with a delightfully picturesque and shady environment. The school was opened in February, 1964 with an enrolment of 53 students. On the 13th March, 2006 a kindergarten on the school site was opened by Ms Sharyn O'Neill, Deputy Director General of Education and Training. The Woodlands area has an increasing population. Some of the school's parents attended the school as children. A high percentage of the population is engaged in professional occupations. At Woodlands Primary School all students have access to a quality education. The school aims to respond to students' individual needs in order that they may reach their greatest potential. The children are part of a warm and caring environment facilitated by an effective working relationship between parents, children, staff and community members. Woodlands Primary School has an active, involved Parents and Citizens' Association, which is a vital factor in strengthening this partnership. The School Council is also very active in supporting the school community. The students are enthusiastic about the learning program, developing their social, physical and creative abilities and skills. They enjoy being a part of the school community. Student performance is acknowledged. Parents and carers receive regular, relevant information on student progress. Fortnightly assemblies, the school website and weekly newsletters are utilised to promote student achievement and provide an effective medium for disseminating information. The school staff are very experienced and dedicated. At all times the staff of Woodlands Primary School are concerned with the development and nurturing of the whole child. The non-teaching staff are also very dedicated and work in the areas of school administration, special needs for students with disabilities, library, pre-primary student assistance, junior primary student assistance, cleaning and gardening. | ||||
