Winthrop Primary School is a highly regarded school set on a hilltop in a family friendly suburb located 12km south of Perth. It is close to Murdoch University, Murdoch Hospital and a short drive to the Port of Fremantle.

The school has a cosmopolitan atmosphere thanks to the multicultural background of 38 percent of our school population of 726 students. Children come from many different countries including, China, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, the United Kingdom and parts of Europe.

Our learning program is rich and diverse to cater for all the learning styles, talents and needs of our students. In addition to the basic curriculum, special programs are provided in Music, Computing, Library, Physical Education, Japanese, Science, English as a Second Language and Dance.

At Winthrop Primary School we strive to ensure that each student can 'Learn and Grow' and to that end our curriculum implementation is inclusive of all students with a strong focus of students with special needs and talented and gifted students. Classroom programs, professional development and school resources ensure that we are able to support all students to achieve their full potential.

The achievements and progress of our school are strongly supported by parents who are actively involved at all levels of the school program. This is evident in the work of our P&C, School Council, Band Committee, Chinese Language Classes, Canteen, Uniform Shop and Drug Education Group.

The academic, artistic and sporting achievements are always of the highest standard and this is evident each year in our school program displays, assessment results, competition success and awards.

The learning program is supported by an integrated/wireless Apple Macintosh system which provides a high ratio of computers in all areas of the school. This is extended by the use of laptops to provide opportunities for computer use in all areas of the school grounds.

The school opened in 1991 and has grown to its current Level 6 status. The facilities, buildings and grounds are excellent and maintained at a high standard. All areas are airconditioned and the undercover area, music room, oval and playground facilities set the scene for a pleasant learning and working environment.

The use of funds from the Investing in Schools Program, Programmed Maintenance Funds and P&C Donations has improved our school facilities with the purchase of an additional demountable classroom, refurbished instrumental room, additional sport and storage areas, new carpets and furniture for classrooms.

Our school maintains an outstanding reputation which is maintained by positive and open communications with all of our partners: students, parents, staff and the local community.

It even works with well known land marks - for example, try "Sydney Airport" or "Tullamarine Airport".
