Willetton Primary is committed to the achievement of our own school vision within the context of the Department of Education and Training Purpose Statement and Vision as set out below.

Purpose Statement
'To ensure that all Government School students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to achieve their individual potential and contribute to society.'A Vision for Government School Education

Pedagogy
Teachers are committed to meeting the academic, physical and social/emotional needs of all students. Current contemporary pedagogy (teaching skills/styles) are utilised in identifying and addressing students' developmental needs.

Planning, teaching, assessment and reporting reflect an outcomes focus and teachers work collaboratively to ensure consistency is maintained in all curriculum areas.

A feature of our school is the commitment made to student health and well being through the appointment of a staff member to work specifically in this area. Strategies such as those in the Rainbows and Ozzie Optimism Programs are used as well as counselling opportunities. A school coordinator has been appointed to implement a drug awareness program for students and parents.

Academic Success
WALNA (West Australian Literacy and Numeracy Assessment) The schools' results indicate that student achievement is very sound. Comparisons with the state benchmark and the results of similar schools reflects very favourably. This is confirmed when the results are compared over several years.

The school participates in the University of New South Wales examinations in a variety of subject areas. The achievement of students is well above the state achievement levels with many students performing at Distinction level.

Many of the students exiting from our school into the secondary system are awarded scholarships to continue their studies in high profile schools in the subject areas of their choice.

Music
The school has both a senior (year 6/7) and junior (year 4/5) choir. Regular performances are presented at assemblies and outside school concerts. Choral performances at prestigious events such as Winthrop and Burswood festivals regularly see our choirs awarded outstanding achievement awards.

All classes attend specialist music lessons and opportunities are provided for recorder ensembles, brass and strings lessons.
A string orchestra of 38 students regularly performs to a high level. This orchestra includes cello, viola and violin sections.
The brass / wind section includes trumpet, clarinet and flute.

All classes conduct regular fitness activities and the middle and senior grades engage in organised sport activities each week.
An annual athletics carnival is run in third term.
In term swimming lessons are held for pre primary & years 1-7.

The school has a SaER (Students at Educational Risk) coordinator who assists with the management of programs to assist students and teachers in providing the best opportunities for progress.
Students with special needs (intellectual, social, physical) are catered for in mainstream classes. Staff are committed to catering for all students and maximising opportunities for our 'special needs' students.
SAER - Students at Educational Risk, Individual Education Plans are constructed to document the needs of students identified to be at risk.

All classrooms have several work stations set up for student use.
In addition, there is a computer lab of 32 work stations for student/class use. This is an impressive facility and provides state of the art equipment for student use.

The school staff represents a diverse range of experienced personnel. Both teaching and non teaching staff contribute actively to the school programs.
The school is fortunate to attract well qualified and experienced teaching staff through the merit selection process.
