| Wickham Primary School supports a diverse and energetic community with presently burgeoning operations at the iron ore port facility of Cape Lambert. The school population draws from families working for Pilbara Iron and associated contractors, government employees, and those involved in fishing industries at Point Samson. While enrolments have risen in the past two years to 330 students, teaching and learning facilities in the primary area are at present at a comfortable capacity. The school is staffed by a Level 4 principal, a Level 3 Deputy Principal, 17 teaching staff and 10 non-teaching support staff. This is comprised of both temporary and permanent staff; graduate teachers, teachers with 4-5 years experience and teachers who have partners who work in town and have taught at the school for 15 years or more. Wickham Primary School has 11 classrooms and specialist teaching areas located in two separate teaching blocks, a library, two demountable classrooms (Pre-Primary), and one transportable classroom (Kindergarten). There is an administrative block housing offices, medical rooms, facilities for disabled students, and an interview room. All areas are air-conditioned. The school also has a covered assembley area, covered playground equipment, adjacent playing fields and access to the town swimming pool within walking distance. The school presently offers specialist programs in Multimedia, Physical Education and LOTE Japanese. The teaching and non-teaching staff are supported by a P&C Association, PSPI Committee and School Council. A consultative approach to decision making operates through staff representation on the above committees. Leadership and commitment to a well developed decision making processes are demonstrated by staff involvement and community consultation in all areas of schooling. The school motto is 'Ours is the future - Courtesy, Honesty and Activity'. The school community is working to develop a collaborative approach to teaching and learning, emphasising child centred and outcomes focused learning programs. This is reflected in the priorities and programs currently operating in the school, with collaborative planning meetings allowing teachers to provide a strong and integrated cross curricula approach to all activities. | ||||
