| Westminster Primary School is located in the suburb of Westminster approximately eight kilometres north of the city. The school currently has an enrolment of 138 students from Years 4 to 7. The children come from a variety of cultural backgrounds including Aboriginal, African, Asian and European Non English Speaking Backgrounds. The Westminster Education Support Centre is located within the same building as this school and 16 Year 4-7 children are enrolled in the centre. The local area is undergoing a transformation with many new buildings changing the shape of the suburb. Parents want their children to enjoy success at school and a Student at Educational Risk Coordinator and a Learning Support Coordinator role has been implemented to support teachers when developing learning programs aimed to meet the needs of the students. STAFFING PROFILE Two of the teaching staff have been at Westminster for eight years, while all other teaching staff are in their first or second year at Westminster. All individual staff are characterised by enthusiasm and dedication toward their work and bring to the school a wealth of backgrounds and experience. There is one senior teacher and a Deputy Principal has been appointed in 2006 to support the students, teachers and Principal. The school employs five non-teaching staff, including a full time gardener. Class arrangements are: Year 4/5 Year 5 Year 5/6 Year 6 Year 7 Year 7 Specialist teacher include: Physical Education - 0.6 FTE Learning Technologies - 0.4 FTE Learning Support Coordinator - 0.1FTE Art - 0.3 FTE SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE SCHOOL The campus has three schools located within its boundary - Westminster Junior Primary School, Westminster Primary School and the Westminster Education Support Centre (ESC). The Primary School and the ESC are located in the same building, while the Junior Primary is on the opposite side of the school campus. The school has adequate facilities with regular upgrades of the 40 year old building necessary. The ESC students are fully integrated into mainstream classes and are withdrawn during reading, mathematics and writing time. Mainstream children who are experiencing severe learning difficulties also attend ESC classes. ESC staff provide support to mainstream classes in the afternoons. The school is currently investigating the use of a multiple intelligences approach to teaching and learning. SCHOOL DECISION-MAKING AND CONSULTATION PROCESS Westminster shares a Parents and Citizens? association with the other two schools on site and this consists of a small band of hard working parents. A School Council oversees school development planning and associated activities. A Student Council is elected each year with representatives from the Year 7 students. | ||||
