| In addition to being a short walk away from some of the best beaches in the world, Wembley Downs Primary School enjoys the advantage of being 'nestled' within beautiful trees with spacious playing fields. Its traditional style buildings lend themselves to an atmosphere of 'peaceful industry'. Facilities include a multi purpose undercover assembly area and on-site Pre-primary Centre for five-year-olds. A well-appointed Kindergarten/Pre-primary is located off-site within a short distance. A state of the art Library and Technology Centre was completed in term 4, 2003 that complements the Information and Learning Technology program and network that has been developed and implemented across the school in past years. Enrolment currently stands at 290 (K-7) with the majority of students coming from within our boundary. The school has a blend of teachers with experience and diverse interests and expertise with specialist areas of music and library/technology as well as Japanese as a Language other than English An instrumental music program taken by School of Instrumental Music staff in school hours includes options for Years 3 - 7 for strings, brass and piano. Students participate in and perform publicly within a school ensemble. There is a very active Parents and Citizens' Association developing social networks and with sub-committees managing such operations as the uniform shop, canteen and Safety House, as well as a School Council. Elected Student Councillors and House Captains enable students to be represented in a tangible way. Classroom assessments combined with data gathered from State and National testing programs indicate that standards in the school are very high and show evidence of significant 'value adding'. Students at Educational Risk (SAER) are catered for across the school year levels through both remedial and academic extension programs. The changing demography of the area and the school's capacity in recent years to provide a real alternative to places offered in the many private schools in the local area, has seen the school population continue to steadily increase. This is a very positive factor in the long-term outlook for the school. | ||||
