| THE SCHOOL Warnbro Primary School opened in February 1973 with an enrolment of 209 children, and a staff of five teachers plus a principal. Since then, the school has operated on the same site, although changes have obviously occurred. Enrolments at Warnbro Primary gradually increased and peaked at more than 1000 students in 1993. The opening of new schools in neighbouring areas has seen the school population stabilise and enrolments are now at approximately 550 students. The school's enrolment is drawn from areas immediately surrounding the school. The population of the school is surprisingly transient, with a significant percentage of students moving to the school from other locations - a reflection of the growth in housing in the Rockingham area. A significant proportion of students are attending Warnbro Primary School as their second, third or fourth school.THE STAFF The staff population is relatively stable and ranges from teachers in their first few years through to teachers with extensive experience. The teaching staff at Warnbro PS is more experienced than might be expected in many similar schools, with the average length of teacher service at the school being a little over 6 years. The school is currently a Level 5 school, and has a Principal, two Deputy Principals and a Level 3 teacher. The school has specialist teachers for Music, Physical Education and Indonesian. In 2006 we have two Numeracy Specialists working with all students acrocss the school as part of the Getting it Right Strategy. Non-teaching staff are also relatively experienced, with some having been employed at the school for over fifteen years. The non teaching staff includes: School Officer, Registrar, part time School Psychologist, part time School Nurse, Library Officer and Gardener. In addition there are 5 part time Education Assistants who support the school's ECE programs and 9 part time Special Needs Assistants who work with individual students.RESOURCES The school comprises: * 3 clusters, each with 6 classrooms, 2 wet areas and a withdrawal area. * 1 purpose built library, automated and air-conditioned. * 1 refurbished administration facility with 5 offices, interview room, medical room, staff room, store room, staff shower and toilets. * 2 adjoining purpose built pre primary classrooms with wet areas and storage areas. * 3 transportable pre compulsory classrooms * 1 school canteen. * 1 covered assembly area. * 1 sports shed. * 1 gardener's shed. * extensive lawns and gardens and an oval all reticulated. * basketball and netball courts. Warnbro Primary School is relatively well placed in terms of curriculum resources. All students also have good access to networked classroom computer facilities (including Internet) as well as a computer laboratory. For 2006 the school has been organized into 24 classes from K to 7 with no more than 24 children in a class from Pre-Primary to Year 3. DECISION MAKING AND CONSULTATIVE PROCESSES The School P & C consists of the President, 2 x Vice Presidents, the Secretary and the Treasurer. The P&C meets on the third Wednesday of each school term. Meetings are used as a forum to discuss educational issues and to organize fundraising to support the educational initiatives within the school. Four committees support the P&C Association: Canteen Committee, Safety House Committee, Grounds Committee and Fund raising Committee. The School Council has made the transition to comply with the requirements of the new Schools Education Act. It comprises the Principal, 3 teachers, 1 P&C representative and 4 parent representatives. The School Council meets on a needs basis. The teaching staff meets twice per term, after school hours. The administration team meets every Friday. A school newsletter is published fortnightly on Wednesdays. The P&C Association and School Council hold open meetings and the minutes are made available to all interested parties. Teachers use parent interviews and meetings, student reports, homework diaries and school assemblies to engage in dialogue with parents and to acknowledge students' achievements. In 2006 Warnbro Primary School celebrates 33 years of educating students. | ||||
