Trayning Primary School is a Level 3 rural primary school located in the Wheatbelt area of Western Australia. The town is approximately 250kms east of Perth between Nungarin and Wyalkatchem. The nearest major centres are Merredin, 78kms South East, Kellerberrin 61km South and Northam 150kms to the West. The area is predominately used for grain and sheep farming. The students that attend Trayning come from the communities of Trayning, Kununoppin and Yelbeni. Currently there are 58 students enrolled at Trayning Primary School.

Our school has a teaching staff of 6 members catering to the needs of students from Kindergarten to Year 7. It consists of a Principal, 4 Classroom Teachers and a part time Italian Language Teacher, The school also has 6 School Support Staff who perform a variety of tasks that support the students and teaching staff. All staff are dedicated, innovative, enthusiastic and professional in maintaining and supporting the delivery of a quality educational program in a safe, clean and well maintained rural setting.

The school is structured around an existing traditional type primary school of 3 permanent classrooms in a well looked after 1950s era building. There is also a transportable classroom used by the Junior primary, transportable office block, transportable library and toilet block. The school is located within a picturesque waterwise garden with an oval that backs on to the school that is shared with the Trayning Shire Council.

The students are able to access ICT through a dedicated curriculum network with links to all rooms. LOTE (Italian) is delivered via a teacher share scheme with Beacon and Bencubbin Primary Schools and Mukinbudin District High School. A focus this year in school planning is establishing the Negotiating Integrated Curriculum (NIC) program. Through the NIC program the links between the learning areas will be more transparent and present more real learning opportunities to actually 'teach children how to learn'.

The School Council is the main decision-making body in the school. Its members are elected by the school community and staff. In addition, the school is supported by an active P&C group who raise funds for use with the students. The school is also actively supported by the Trayning Shire Council who are of great assistance to us.

Trayning Primary School forms part of the Ninghan cell of schools which join together regularly to participate in sporting, cultural and social events allowing our students to form friendships with those from other schools.
Students at Trayning Primary School are also supported by the Priority Country Areas Program which provides additional funds to the school to lessen the impact of geographical isolation and allow students to participate in many activities that could otherwise financially disadvantage the school.
