| Tranby Primary School is located in the inner suburb of Rivervale, within the City of Belmont. It is in a quiet residential area which is comprised of old houses and new developments. Due to changes in the demographics of the catchment area, the school population has dropped significantly over the past six years. However, for the past two years the school population has remained stable at 140. Such small numbers has allowed us to build strong relationships between students, staff, parents and the wider community. Tranby is renowned for being family orientated. All classes except for the kindergarten and pre-primary are multi-age groupings, and our class numbers are smaller than most other schools. The school also has an Aboriginal kindergarten, which caters for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students. Tranby is a very multicultural school and we have a reputation for being a very inclusive school. We have a number of Education Support students who are all fully integrated into mainstream classes. We also have a strong focus on Aboriginal culture. In 2005 we won an ENRICH award from the Department of Indigenous Affairs in recognition of our efforts to encourage reconciliation. We place a great emphasis on the social and emotional wellbeing of our students and many of our programs are focused on teaching students skills which will enable them to be caring and productive members of the community. The staff at Tranby are very vibrant, enthusiastic and highly motivated. As a result we have a number of programs which focus on developing positive self worth. Students at Tranby feel a great sense of ownership and pride in their school. At Tranby we also have a strong focus on Literacy. We have two literacy specialists, one in the junior primary, and another in the middle and upper school The school also has a number of support staff which includes Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers, Education assistants, a Parent Liaison Officer and a pastoral care worker. | ||||
