Our School

Tammin Primary School is a Level 3 Department of Education and Training institute located within the Midlands Education District 180 kilometres east of Perth. The school was established in its current location in 1969 and first commenced in 1900. The school has experienced an average enrolment of 65 over the past five years with students from Kindergarten to Year 7 and is proud of its friendly, caring and relaxed atmosphere. The majority of our school's population live on farming properties that are serviced daily by two school bus routes running north and south of Great Eastern Highway.

Our vision at Tammin Primary School is to 'make a difference in the lives of our students'. We propose to develop each child's social, physical, creative and academic potential in an environment where they can maximise educational opportunities, enjoy a full range of social and cultural activities and participate as responsible members of society.

The school seeks to provide an educational program that caters for a broad spectrum of abilities, needs and interests of students and to have strong links with parents and the community.

The school currently has a three class configuration. We have a total teaching staff allocation of 4 full time teaching staff including the Principal. Support teachers are also employed to teach specific Language and Numeracy learning Programs with 7 dedicated support staff. The school is also fortunate in having a quality Getting It Right Literacy specialist who works with all teaching staff and students. Tammin Primary School offers a variety of quality learning programs designed to meet the specific needs of all students. Class sizes are low, with the average size being 21. The smaller than average class sizes across the school allows our teaching faculty to give greater individual attention to all of its students.

Curriculum

Pre-primary and Kindergarten
A full time five-year-old (pre-primary) program is available on site, as well as a four-year-old program, which is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays. These programs are incorporated as part of the Rural Integration Program at the school.

Rural Integration Program

Our RIP centre is expansive in size and features up-to-date resources and programs, carefully selected to maximize learning opportunities. Its modern physical layout enables our professional team to capitalise on this generous space to encourage interaction between children. The focus of this interaction changes frequently in response to the developmental learning program provided by qualified early childhood staff.

Students participate in learning activities designed to develop and improve outcomes across all eight Learning Areas. This includes LOTE Telematics Program in French delivered through SIDE in Leederville. All of our classes are multi-aged classes of three year levels; Kindergarten to Year 1, Years 2?4 and Years 5?7. However, as part of our 2006 Literacy & Numeracy Program, the school has delivered a four-class configuration three mornings a week. Tammin Primary School delivers an outcomes based education and uses First Steps as a major basis of our Literacy Program across the school.

Educational and Cultural excursions, camps and incursions play a vital role in our learning programs. The development of leadership is also a major component of our school with an active Student Council Leadership Team who provide a range of social and sporting activities to the student population. Our students are friendly, well-mannered and respect the rights and beliefs of their peers.

Our teaching staff is a well-balanced blend of experience. Our teaching faculty are enthusiastic, skilled, dedicated and eager to make a difference in the academic and social development of our students. They have worked diligently to engage and motivate our students and to administer an outcomes approach to education. Our faculty have access to a wide range of professional development and training opportunities and take on a variety of leadership roles within our school. Our staff work as a team and value collaborative practices highly. This includes developing professional networking links with our neighbouring schools.

The school has a Computer Laboratory, Library / Resource Centre and a RIP Learning Area connected to the Years K?1 Class. 2006 sees the school with both new playground equipment for its Junior and Senior students and further development of our Computer Lab and Library Resource Centre. A five year School Grounds Plan has been drafted with 2006 focusing on creating a vivid and welcoming entry statement to our school. A useful covered assembly area provides a meeting venue for school assemblies and conduct of a range of extra curricula activities including visiting performers and exhibitions.

A well-resourced and automated library is a focal point of the school.
Students requiring access to an educational support program are also catered for at Tammin. Eduction support students are integrated into the mainstream classroom and are provided with an educational assistant where eligible.

Enrolment

In keeping with DoET policy, the school's enrolment policy is non-discriminatory. Admission is subject to approval by the Principal. Special needs that the child may have must be declared at the time of completing the enrolment form.

Parents and Community

At Tammin Primary School our school community are extremely supportive. Parents and caregivers are recognised as important contributors to their child's social, cultural, moral and intellectual development. We see our relationship with parents and caregivers as being part of a team, endeavouring to achieve common goals. Parents play an important part in the life of the school:

- Assisting with extra curricular activities
- Participating in the decision making process via an active P&C and School Council
- Supporting the ongoing development of the school resources and facilities via the P&C
- Attending parent information sessions and meetings
- Organising the Ashton Scholastic Book Club
