| Swanbourne Primary School is situated 15 minutes drive west of the Perth Central Business District. The school is approximately 1 kilometre from the ocean. Swanbourne is one of the more affluent suburbs in Perth, being surrounded by Fremantle to the south, City Beach to the north, with Mount Claremont and Cottesloe as inland neighbouring suburbs. Swanbourne is well-established and regularly features in real estate literature as one of the top ten most popular suburbs. Swanbourne Primary School was relocated to its Narla Road site in 2001. The new school replaced the previous facilities in Derby Road. An extensive consultation period process with representatives of The Aboriginal Community was undertaken before building commenced. Aboriginal people lived in the area up until 1951, and their culture and history is recognised. One of the conditions of the redevelopment is that the Department of Education and Training set 1.5 ha of land aside to focus on Aboriginal heritage for use by the school, aboriginal and wider communities. Appropriate signage recognises the original inhabitants of the area. Other conditions include a dedicated section of the new library for Aboriginal material and a cross- cultural awareness program including Aboriginal history and culture that is included in the school's curriculum. The school has thirteen classes ranging from Kindergarten to Year 7, two Education Support classes and specialist teachers in Physical Education, Library Studies/Research Skills, Music, English as a Second Language and Languages Other Than Teaching (Japanese). The school's staffing profile consists of the Principal, two Deputy Principals, a Registrar, 18.62 teaching staff and 14.9 support staff. Non-Teaching staff include Education Assistants for Kindergarten and Pre-Primary Classes, an assistant for Years 1-2, a Defence Force funded Transition Officer, a Library officer and Education Assistants for Education Support students and students with special challenges. A part-time School Officer also assists in the front office. School staff range from graduate teachers to the those with many years of experience. They are committed to developing programs and activities that cater fully for the individual educational needs of the students. The new state-of-the-art school has twelve general teaching areas, two education support teaching areas, two pre-primary teaching area, one Kindergarten, art and craft room, music room, library, resource centre, canteen, administration block, hard courts, oval and 2.5 hectares of parks and gardens. The school's covered assembly area is extended and enclosed so it can be used as a school hall. Upgraded IT facilities have greatly enhanced the school's educational program. In 2007 the school added 32 new computers to the network for student use. There are also a variety of peripherals including digital, still and video cameras that stduents use as part of their integrated studies. The school has an active Parent and Citizens Association and School Council. | (relatively) new buildings and good design/layout. Nice to have a mixed group with ed support children and army children in school. | Clique-y teaching staff. It doesnt feel that they work well as a team. Some comments by teachers to students and parents not appropriate. Staff seem stressed. Lack of established trees makes shade a problem, but this is gettign better. | A dissappointment. Given the facilities and ed dept support for this school, the achievements of students and staff is not what it should be. | ||

| Outstanding facilities. New Principal with new ideas. Wonderful teachers in years 1 and 2. | Some staff been at the school way too long. No shade. Extra programs needed to improve the school. | It's great to have a new principal who is doing a fantastic job with new ideas. Let's see if the teachers now start to think more about the students. | ||

| New principal - new ideas. Yay!!! Seems to be a focus on raising standards and listening to the community. Fantastic junior primary - middle primary could be with some changes - 1 or 2 teachers look like they don't really care. | Some teaching staff seem concerned with things other than what the students achieve. | In 2009 the school is obviously undergoing changes in direction and the students now seem to be the focus - yay!! Parents only move to the private system because of the low standards in the middle primary. The principal comments in the newsletters are refreshing. | ||
