| Subiaco Primary School was built in 1897 and was extensively renovated in 1997 as part of the centenary celebrations. The community of Subiaco has a wide variety of socio-economic backgrounds and a wide variety of family structures. There is an extremely strong sense of ownership and pride with regards to the school. The community carefully sustains the history and traditions of the school. School classrooms are housed in the original buildings. Some of the new buildings include a Staffroom and Library Resource Centre that is well used by our children. A multi purpose room constructed in 1989 is used for our Art/Craft and Technology and Enterprise Learning Areas. The old Staffroom was also renovated in 1997 and is now used for our school Music program. The school has seventeen classrooms (one Pre Primary Centre is off site) that cater for students from Kindergarten to Year 7. There are several large and significant trees on our site that are monitored as part of an ongoing management plan. There are currently around 440 children in our school from Kindergarten to Year 7. Kindergarten classes have a maximum of 20 children, our Pre Primary class sizes vary from 25 to 27 depending on the facility. The school has a very positive relationship with the Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) resulting in strong ongoing support for our teaching and learning program and enabling the enhanced development of the school grounds. Early in 2002, with the use of school funds, two new play areas were constructed and work was also completed on one of the Early Childhood play areas. As part of the renovations that took place in 1997 the bitumen areas that surrounded most of the school buildings were replaced with brick paving along with a large undercover area and new tennis/basketball courts. There are two grassed play areas. One of these is used for football, cricket and the annual athletics carnival. The other is a smaller area suitable for outdoor play. The school is one of the few primary schools which boasts a six lane, 17- metre swimming pool that is currently maintained by our Parents and Citizens Association. Subiaco Primary School is keenly sought as a placement by teachers and non-teaching staff and there are now approximately fifty staff, including specialist staff like the Chaplain, a position that is funded by our Parents and Citizens Association. The school is also able to access Curriculum Improvement Officers, Social Workers and School Psychologists from the District Education Office. SUBIACO PRIMARY SCHOOL CREED 'This is our school In these rooms and on the playing fields We will fit ourselves for the future Let us not throw away these precious years But gain from them all we can Let us always remember That a school is not a building But a gathering of minds and hearts And a place of friendly guidance and help This is our school.' | ||||
