| SPRINGFIELD PRIMARY SCHOOL 'WORKING TOGETHER - ACHIEVING MORE' TEACHING AUSTRALIA QUALITY IN SCHOOLING AWARD RECIPIENT 2007 & 2006. Springfield Primary School, situated in the north west Perth suburb of Kallaroo, has a sound reputation for delivering quality education and cultural and pastoral care programs. With a firm belief in the unique value of each student, the school caters for Pre-Primary to Year 7 and has strong links with the Kallaroo Kindergarten 4-year-old program. The current student population is about three hundred (300) students. Located close to Perth's northern beaches, parks and recreational facilities, including a local swimming pool, library, and a large suburban shopping centre, the school is well-equipped with air-conditioned classrooms. The average experience of the teaching staff is 20 years, with the majority of teachers being at Springfield Primary School for more than eight years. The school received a Teaching Australia National Quality in Schooling Award 2007 for our unique Early Adolescent Program, which has resulted in improved Yr 6 & 7 student outcomes and numerous Year 7 students gaining secondary education scholarships. The Visual Arts program involves students in a stimulating and diverse range of arts experiences, including Clay Work, with access to the school's kiln. The Visual Arts specialist program received a NEITA - ASG Community Award in 2006 for involving students in community based projects. The Art Show held in Term 4 as a culmination to the Visual Arts Specialist program has proved to be a great highlight of the year for parents, students and staff as did the winning of best Community Float at the Joondalup Grand Parade in 2007. The school is also proud of its outstanding music traditions. The choir performs at school assemblies and special events, including the renowned Schools Make Music Education Week Concert. Lessons in clarinet, flute and brass are delivered for selected Year 6/7 students by teachers from the School of Instrumental Music. As well as The Arts, the school Athletics team and other interschool sports teams have achieved considerable success, while the Social Dance and Public Speaking competition have proved very popular with students. A Scripture Union Primary Age club and the Active After School Program are also available at the school Enrichment programs in English, Theatresports, Information Communication & Technology (computing) and Tournament of the Minds are offered to challenge and broaden the curriculum provision to selected children. Learning Technologies includes access to computers, with six network computers in all Years 3/7 classes. Access is also provided to the automated library, digital camera and digital video. Special week activities such as Book Week, Education Week and Life Education Van, together with classroom assistance and the School Volunteer program all receive generous and active parental and community support. Winning a Teaching Australia National Quality in Schooling Award in 2006, a NEITA ASG Community Award in 2005 and the Norm Hyde Award for Excellence in Pastoral Care in 2003 was recognition of the school's Pastoral Care Priority, which began in 2001. This program has had a positive impact and is considered a core component of Springfield Primary School's continued success. | ||||
