| The school motto for South Stirling Primary School is 'Reach For Your Peak'. This relates to the proximity of the Stirling Ranges and reminds everyone that the school is situated 70 kilometres north east of Albany and surrounded by natural bush. The motto also reflects the ethos of the school that all should strive to achieve their potential. The purpose of this school is to develop in each student the academic skills and knowledge, together with social and cultural awareness for effective, responsible citizenship and personal fulfilment. We endeavour to promote mutual respect, trust and dignity of the individual as well as honesty and integrity in all activities. We believe this enables our students to particpate to their full potential in the school community. South Stirling Primary School is built upon collaboration, open communication and supportive relationships. We encourage every person in our school community to get involved with our students in their learning. Our School Community is committed to the 'You Can Do It' goals of being organised, getting along, confidence, persistence and resilience. These personal goals along with our motto of 'Reach For Your Peak' are the guiding principles of our school's operations. Nature of our Community. South Stirling School is a Level 3 government school located at the foot of the Stirling Ranges. It boasts modern facilities. South Stirling School started in the 'tentland' of the original South Stirling settlement in 1953. On the school's opening day it had a student attendance of one but with an absence of desks, paper, pens and pencils. By 1956 the school had its own bus service and a school house. In 1958 the school was moved to its present site and a two room building was constructed. The old school now serves as a school library. Our current enrolment is 27 students. Our two classes are composed of a Kindergarten to Year 3 and a Year 4 to 7 class. Many of our students enter our school well prepared for formal education. Our students live on farms with very supportive parents. South Stirling School values relationships with students, staff, parents/carers and our wider community. We appreciate the support the students and staff in our school receive from the Albany District Office and the Department of Education and Training. We actively foster parent/carer and community involvement in our students' education. The School Council representatives' involvement this year continues to be pro-active and beneficial to improving the outcomes for students and our school community. The School Council are an important cog in the development of the School's Education programs. South Stirling Primary School's dedicated team of highly professional and committed staff provide an outstanding learning environment for our students and whole school community. The teachers are well respected in the community for their dedication to the education and well being of the students. Staff participate in regular staff meetings and are actively involved in whole school development planning. They also take on a leadership role in one of our three priorities for 2007. Our students benefit from Federal Government PCAP funding. The funding allows our students to attend departmental swimming lessons, sports carnivals, school camps and be able to attend cultural events in Albany. Local artists in art and music also support the Arts learning area of the curriculum through PCAP funding. Students in Year 3 to 7 receive one hour per week of LOTE (Indonesian) through the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE). 2007 will be also be the first time our students will be involved in the 'Active After School Sports Programme.' | ||||
