| CAMPUS PURPOSE STATEMENT AND ETHOS At South Ballajura Campus we focus on the provision of an environment which is intellectually, socially and physically supportive of learning. The foundation for all learning and teaching is the core shared values. At South Ballajura Campus: * Staff collaboratively engage in ongoing, professional development. * Active learning processes are explicitly taught and embedded in an integrated curriculum. * Students are provided with the opportunity to achieve their full potential in literacy and numeracy. * Engaging and developmentally appropriate programs are provided to ensure that learning is optimised. * The Campus environment is caring, safe and inclusive. * Students are encouraged to achieve their personal best through goal setting and reflection, and to celebrate their success and the efforts of others. * Positive relationships are developed between children, parents and staff based on care, mutual respect and open communication. * Each person's uniqueness is valued, enriching the learning environment. * Resources provided by the Department of Education and Training are distributed fairly according to student needs. Demographic School Community Established in 1994, South Ballajura Primary School and Education Support Centre are located at the southern end of the suburb of Ballajura and cater for K-6 students from the surrounding multicultural community which includes families from South East Asia, India, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Australia. The school had 625 students enrolled in 2006. Inclusivity Because many children come from non-English speaking backgrounds, South Ballajura PS provides English as a Second Language (ESL) support for these students in the form of additional specialist teaching staff and additional education assistants who speak foreign languages and provide a communication link to parents. The Primary School campus also accommodates the South Ballajura Education Support Centre which caters for students with special needs. The school's integration policy allows some ESC classes to combine with mainstream classes. A highlight of 2007 saw the start of the Early Years Intensive Intervention Trial where students with disabilities are enrolled in pre-primary for part of the school day. Learning Programs South Ballajura Primary School has a strong focus on quality teaching and learning programs in literacy and numeracy. During the last year teachers engaged in professional learning in the First Steps in Mathematics program. This builds on the work started in the Getting it Right in Numeracy program. This project focuses on improving students' key understandings in number as well as equipping teachers with strategies to assess student progress and determine the next learning cycle. Students at SBPS also benefit from specialist programs in Music, Visual Art, Indonesian and Physical Education. Pastoral Care The school has a comprehensive Behaviour Management policy with a strong anti-bullying message. Many teachers have implemented co-operative learning strategies to develop students' social skills to enable them to communicate effectively and work collaboratively. These policies ensure a safe and caring environment for students. | ||||
