| Sorrento Primary School is located in a coastal suburb 20 kilometres from Perth. The school attracts students from surrounding suburbs in addition to our local catchment. The school is 35 years old and has an administration block, library, two blocks of six classrooms, one block of one classroom and two Pre-Primary centres. There is a separate Kindergarten centre. In the school grounds we have two basketball courts, a netball court oval and dedicated Pre-Primary/Year 1 play area. All buildings are airconditioned with computers and internet connection. The school grounds are well maintained. Sorrento Primary School has a strong sense of community with a high level of cooperation being evident. It is characterised by its pastoral care, accepted dress code, a cooperative and responsible student body and committed staff and parents. Additional opportunities include; - Chess Club; - Instrumental Music - flute and clarinet; - Wide variety of sporting activities including morning fitness program, athletics and swimming carnivals, triathlon and Physical Education program; - Information and Computer Technology - the school is fully networked with an automated library, internet access in classrooms and a computer lab; - Year 7 camp; - Variety of incursions and excursions; - Red Cross Club; and, - Social Dance program - for Years 5-7. Sorrento Primary School seeks to promote values and pastoral care through; - A positive and supportive environment which recognises and rewards good behaviour; - Offering a Religion In Life package for Years 1-4 and a series of values seminars to Years 5-7; - Recognising our wider community responsibilities through our sponsorship of two World Vision children, our Red Cross Club and our support of the Salvation Army; and, - Implementing a well defined anti-bullying policy. Our school community works cooperatively as seen in; - The role of the School Council; - An active Parents and Citizen's Association providing a wide variety of services including a canteen, book club, Safety House program and fund-raising for resources; - Parents involved in classrooms, on excursions and with sport; and, - The conducting of a bush regeneration project on the school site, combining the energy of members of the Parents and Citizen's Association and the Sorrento Primary School . | ||||
