| Shelley Primary School with the adjacent Shelley Hub shopping centre forms a community focus for the riverside suburb of Shelley. Easy entry to Shelley at Vahland Ave and a pedestrian bridge over Leach Hwy make for easy access for the 300 students whose parents have chosen Shelley Primary even though some live in other suburbs. This is a school with a strong sense of community and belonging. Student numbers are at an optimum level enabling flexibility in class placements, very good resourcing of facilities and other learning resources without any temporary accommodation. This year a very well equipped library resource centre will be opened. Parents, students and staff know each other and work together as a team, which knows and recognises each child's needs. The school is fortunate in having a very supportive parent body, which works in partnership with the staff in providing extras that enhance the children's learning. These extras include a wide range of playground equipment for our extensive green spaces to fully air-conditioned school. During 2005 a stage area was completed in the under cover area. As well the canteen operating with parent volunteers two days a week is a great way to meet others. There is a strong focus on teaching and learning with the school consistently providing high standards of achievement across the curriculum. The school operates a very strong fitness and Physical Education programme, which provides challenges to a wide range of abilities. An extra dimension is our strong focus on Values Education for which we received a national award in 2003. This is part of an ethos of developing the whole child with a wide range of leadership opportunities for senior children including a strong camp programme We are proud of our former students. In latter years many go on to elite sport or leadership positions at secondary schools, especially Rossmoyne Senior High School. There is recognition of the fact that, within each class, there is a range from future honours students to students with special needs. This is all part of Shelley's cohesive school community ethos. | ||||
