Compare with all other primary schools.
Serpentine Primary School is a medium size Primary School catering for the needs of the Serpentine township and the surrounding area. The town is 25 km south of Armadale with a steadily growing population as people come away from the city to enjoy a rural lifestyle. As a result there's a mixture of people including long term farming families, newer families on hobby farms and families living in the township.

The 240 kindergarten to year 7 students reflect this variety, at the same time maintaining a strong rural flavour steeped in history. The students are a friendly, cooperative group with no major discipline problems. The school's dress code is adhered to with most students wearing school uniform. There is a values program (PATHS) enabling students to develop a strong work ethic and valuable life skills.

A rich and varied curriculum is offered including specialist areas of music, phys ed, LOTE (ITALIAN) and library. External and in-school extension programs are available for talented and gifted students. A strong technology program exists to ensure students and staff have access to information and communication that enhances learning. Instrumental courses are offered on site through the Schools Instrumental Music Program.

These programs are delivered in an environment that reflects a wonderful blend of old and new including an air-conditioned, modern library and early childhood centre. Most staff are experienced educators, one of whom was a finalist in the National Excellence in Teaching Award while another was nominated for the Premier's Award for 2005. Amongst staff there is a strong culture of collaboration made possible by sound relationships and teamwork.

Students at Educational Risk are assisted through individual and group programs catering for special needs. Education Assistants, teacher support time and a wide range of external support groups are directed to the effective implementation of these programs.

The school benefits immensely from a strong parent and community support base. Significant funds are generated through the school annual fair and the plant nursery. Parents give generously of their time to assist in the classroom, run a canteen and uniform shop and volunteer for projects that enable student access to additional, interesting activities.
