Compare with all other primary schools.
Rostrata Primary School, situated in the southern Perth suburb of Willetton, is a Level 6 school. Developed according to the latest design technology of the time, the official opening took place in 1983. Beginning with an enrolment of 149, the population quickly grew and peaked at nearly 1000 to be one of the largest schools in the state. Since then the school population has slowly decreased and is now approximately 700.

The school is fortunate in having highly motivated students, very supportive parents and skilled, experienced teachers.

Rostrata Primary School adopts an outcomes focused approach towards education that reflects the intent of Western Australia's Curriculum Framework. This is an inclusive framework for all students in Western Australia and it describes what pupils should know, understand, value and be able to do as a result of the programs they undertake from Kindergarten to Year 7.
Its fundamental purpose is to provide a structure around which schools can build programs that ensure students achieve agreed outcomes.

As a result there have been very significant changes within our school culture. Our curriculum emphasis has moved from an essentially content based learning environment to one which is outcomes focused. For teaching staff and administrators this has meant a major shift in our operations. For classroom teachers there have been significant changes in the philosophical thinking about effective learning environments with a particular expectation that there be a change in pedagogy. These kinds of changes can only be accommodated when there is commitment from staff, effective professional development and time for implementation. Our Rostrata staff are to be commended for the way in which they have taken account of, and implemented, these very significant adaptations.

Within the administration there has also been a need to consider more effective ways of accommodating the emphasis now placed on developmental learning and the assumption that our focus be on life long learning for children. This has impacted on many aspects of our operations not the least of which has been classroom organization. In 2003/2004 we implemented a multi-age grouping strategy in Years 6/7 and Years 4/5. In accepting that this is a 'best practice' strategy for catering for an outcomes focused approach we have now completed this organization throughout the school with Pre Primary/1 and years 2/3 .
The administration has also been conscious of the need to ensure that staff has access to the most effective professional development available. A significant portion of the school budget has been set aside to meet this goal. It has become clear that many staff members have been very positively influenced by this training which is now so evident in classrooms.

While these changes have been important our school has continued to command an excellent reputation within the community for the many successful programs we provide to cater for the wide interests of our children. In addition to catering for the eight learning areas students have the opportunity to join one of our four bands, Gardening Club, chess or table tennis options.
We have employed specialist teachers in the areas of Science and Performing Arts ( Music and Drama)

Having been at Rostrata for 2 years I have found the level of education to be extremely high with a focus on extending gifted children whilst at the same time supplying the help needed for those who are struggling. The CARE motto is constantly reinforced and the staff very committed.Until logging onto this web-site I have not heard anything but good about the school-I can only summize the bad review has come from an unjustified complaint-hence the anonymous review.I think the best thing we ever did was move up to Willetton to send our children to this school.
