| Nestled amongst the trees in natural bushland surroundings, Roleystone Primary School offers a unique rural community atmosphere in a suburban location. Since the first Roleystone School opened in 1905, the school has forged a strong partnership with the local community and descendants of many of the pioneering families are found among the students of today. Roleystone Primary School offers a comprehensive curriculum for children from Kindergarten to Year Five aimed at allowing each child to reach their potential in academic, social, cultural and physical pursuits. The school takes pride in the provision of an inclusive and safe learning environment with an emphasis upon values education. Specialist programs are also offered in Music, Physical Education and Indonesian. All students have access to a wide range of learning technologies including the provision of computers in all classes and the library resource area. The school has a fully integrated information technology network, with student access to the Internet and e-mail facilities fully supervised and subject to a user agreement and code of behaviour. Roleystone Primary School is an accredited Water Wise School, Sun Smart School and Asthma Friendly School. A further feature of the educational program is the emphasis the school places on environmental studies as a means of delivering many aspects of the curriculum. A high value is placed upon participation in interschool cultural and sporting events with the school enjoying considerable success over a long period of time. Members of the school staff are experienced and loyal, with several of the teachers having Advanced Skills Teacher status. Many staff members are local residents resulting in a strong understanding of the needs and character of the school community. A strong commitment by staff members to professional development has resulted in the ability to meet the needs of an ever-changing educational environment. The school buildings consist of an Administration area with five classrooms,two open area cluster blocks and three early childhood buildings. Additional facilities include a covered assembly area, which incorporates a canteen, a library resource centre and various other storage sheds and outbuildings. The grounds are well maintained with several play areas including an adventure playground, netball and basketball courts, grassed areas, bushland and a school oval. Many of the playground areas are covered by shade structures. Roleystone Primary School enjoys a very high level of parent interest and participation in school activities. Much of this is apparent in the work of the P&C Association, which is involved in many support and fund raising strategies. The Roleystone Primary School Council provides input and advice to the decision-making processes of the school. As a direct result of parent interest and support, a positive attitude towards learning is demonstrated by the vast majority of children in attendance and is a feature of everyday activity at the school. | ||||
