Riverton Primary School, in Riverton
|Details on this primary school|
Compare with all other primary schools.
| Riverton Primary School is a Level 5 Primary School located between High Road and Leach Highway in the suburb and State electorate of Riverton. On the same site we have an Education Support Centre, a level 3 school, with its own Principal. The students enrolled at the ESC have intellectual, physical and/or other disabilities that require specialized placement and teaching. The development of this ESC has provided many opportunities for students, staff and parents to explore Inclusivity on our campus. |
Our school has extensive playing areas including a large oval, separate year one play area and a covered assembly area.
Approximately 15 per cent of our enrolment is from a non-English speaking background and there is a wide range of international representation in the school population. Countries of birth for some of the students include; Afghanistan, Bangladesh Sri Lanka, India, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Italy, United Kingdom, Belgium, New Zealand, Denmark, South Africa and China.
A feature of the school is the high percentage of parents, particularly with children in the junior school, who willingly assist in the school on a regular basis. The School Council is a joint council with the ESC and has representation from both the Primary School and ESC. The P&C is large and active, again with representation from both schools on the site. During 2005 the P&C have contributed to the Edu-dance program in term 1, a new PA system and many other important school projects.
Communication with parents is by weekly newsletter, meetings, class notes, test books and packages, teacher/parent interviews, reports and a fortnightly assembly. There is a high level of attendance by parents at regular school functions such as Athletics Carnivals, Parent Nights, Learning Journey Night, the Easter Hat Parade, Presentation Assemblies and other school functions.
Riverton has an excellently equipped Music Room, Computer Room and Resource Centre that is fully automated. A large stage in a garden setting provides a natural auditorium for plays and assemblies.
Our school is in a period of growth with an additional class this year taking our total to eleven primary classes, one pre-primary class and a mixed K/P class and a kindy that runs two full day sessions for two groups of students. In 2005 we have continued an enrichment program throughout the school that encompasses students experiencing difficulties with learning and our talented students.
