| Ranford Primary is located in the south east metropolitan area of Canning Vale. Opening in 1999 with 282 students ranging from Kindergarten to Year 7, the school grew rapidly in its first three years and after the opening of another school in the area, growth has been gradual over the last three years with a relatively stable population at present of approximately 690 students. The school has well maintained buildings and grounds with additional shared community facilities. The air-cooled buildings include four teaching blocks, Administration, Library Resource Centre, Undercover Area and also specialist Music and Visual Arts rooms. Up to date technology ensures wireless access throughout the school, digital cameras in all classrooms and student access to a wide range of technology including banks of laptops. Technology is embedded in the teaching/learning program and developed as a tool for learning. The Curriculum is guided by the Principles of the Curriculum Framework and is implemented in an integrated teaching/learning program. Student outcomes are monitored using a variety of authentic assessments and external validation tools. The tone of the school is such that student behaviour is managed by the 'Motivating Student Learning Policy' which promotes responsible and respectful behaviour. This is promoted and maintained via a communication system with parents that ensures a partnership in the development of each child's academic, social and emotional development. Both the Motivating Student Learning Policy and the two way communication with parents occur in the context of the school's values and virtues program which embeds the core values of the Curriculum Framework. Specialist staff in Physical Education, Visual Arts, Music and Italian provide expertise in developing student outcomes in these learning areas. A significant number of students have English as a Second Language and this qualifies the school to have the expertise of a specialist ESL teacher and multi-lingual assistant. Staff development is a priority with action research projects, collegiate mentor groups and a commitment to ongoing professional learning all contributing to the development of a quality staff. The teaching staff and Administration are merit selected and have a high level of dedication and commitment to the vision for the school. Ranford Primary School is proud of the recent acknowledgment of their literacy programs by being a finalist in the 2004 Premier's Reading School Awards. The school is also involved in National and State research projects all of which are focused on maximising learning outcomes for students. A bi-annual Art Exhibition promotes the talents of those students who excel in the creative arts, others who are musically talented have the opportunity to participate in choir, instrumental music and band activities. The parent community play an active role in the school by participating in classroom activities and the P&C Association contributes to school resources and the learning environment with significant fundraising, in addition to managing the Canteen and Uniform Shop. The School Councils meets at least six times per year and its members participate in School Review processes with staff. | ||||
