| LOCATION The town of Pingrup is located approximately 400kms south west of Perth. It is situated in the Kent Shire, which has its Shire offices in the town of Nyabing, 40 kilometres west of Pingrup. SCHOOL DETAILS Pingrup Primary School opened in 1923. At the time there were at least three other small schools in the Pingrup area. Apart from East Pingrup, the names and the locations of the other schools are no longer known. These small schools were closed when the larger Pingrup Primary School was opened in the town. Pingrup Primary School has a student population of 23 students. There are three teaching staff, this includes the Principal and two classroom teachers. The class structure comprises of a Middle Primary class, which includes Years 4-7, and an Early Childhood class with a K-3 programme, (commonly known as a Rural Intergration Programme -RIP). The LOTE Programme provided is Indonesian. Students receive Religious Education through the volunteer work of 2 Scripture teachers. All staff members are very committed to Pingrup Primary School and are valued by the community. There is a school bus service available for high school students who travel to Lake Grace District High School, situated 50 kilometres away.FEATURES OF THE SCHOOL The school is a weatherboard building of a linear design. It comprises of three classrooms, a staffroom/storeroom and an administration area. The grounds include two bitumen netball courts, a junior 'adventure playground', and an oval. A new administration building in 2006 has been a welcome addition. The School grounds are currently undergoing a 'beautification' programme where new grassed and garden areas are being developed. Students come from 12 families. The school has a strong Pastoral Care focus. Students receive the opportunity to interact with peers from neighbouring schools, a minimum of twice a term. These events are thoroughly enjoyed by all students. Every second year Pingrup Primary School joins with neighbouring schools for a camp.LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES Pingrup Primary has a network of twelve computers, including three laptops, available for student use. These machines are situated in classrooms allowing for full integration into the curriculum. The students have use of both a digital camera and a scanner. A 'Smart Board' also provides excellent up to date technological teaching and learning opportunities. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Pingrup Primary School enjoys tremendous support from the community. The school has an active Parents and Citizens (P&C) Association. The parents are supportive toward school programs, providing both financial assistance and volunteer labour. They are also very active within the wider community through fund raising events. In 2004 a community garden was established via community sponsorship. The community has assisted the school in identifying Values which the Pingrup school hold dear. These selected Values will form the basis of the Pingrup Primary School Values program. The values are respect, tolerance and honesty. | ||||
