Compare with all other primary schools.
Osborne Primary School opened in 1903 with an enrolment of 17 children and celebrated its 100th birthday in 2003.

The school has changed from a rural setting to an area of high density housing mixed with single dwellings. The catchment area is bounded by the Mitchell Freeway, Hutton Street and Main Street. The school catchment is surrounded by small factories, business offices and other commercial outlets. It is in close proximity to the city and has easy access to the freeway.

Osborne Primary School has a purpose built Pre-Primary unit. The school also has facilities to accommodate a computer laboratory, library, music, Languages Other Than English, Art and English as a Second Language.

The administration building consists of staff facilities, office area, two administration offices, sickroom and reprographics room. The school also has a canteen that operates daily.

Enrolments peaked in 1955 with 475 children. The current enrolment from Kindregarten to Year 7 is 120 students. The school population has a heavy concentration of students with English as a second language and non-English speaking backgrounds. Cultural diversity is very evident. Learning opportunities allow students to achieve optimum potential in a caring environment that respects the rights of all. The size of the school allows for a 'family' atmosphere... one apreciated by the entire school community.

The school motto is 'Strive to Achieve' and the purpose is to provide a quality education of equal opportunity that will cater for the specific needs of the students from Kindergarten to their entry into secondary education.

The school has a strong commitment to promoting values and emphasises inclusivity.

The teaching staff have a wide range of experience and are able to provide an extensive curriculum to the children. Specialist areas include Physical Education, Computer Studies, Music and Languages Other Than English. The school attracts Commonwealth Literacy funding which is used to extend school priorities and Students At Educational Risk programs.

Osborne Primary School has a Principal in the leadership role with a variety of responsibilities being taken on by the teaching staff. The school is part of the Balcatta English as a Second Language (ESL) cell and attracts staff to help deliver the curriculum to ESL children.

Non teaching staff include a registrar, gardener, teacher assistants, library assistant and ethnic assistants.

The school has elected to keep the majority of class sizes small by operating one class over the formula. Each class delivers a well-balanced timetable covering all learning areas.

Technology and Management/Administrative Systems: Osborne Primary has an Information Communications Technology program that caters well for the needs of the students and enhances the teaching and learning program. The school has a computer laboratory and all classes are networked. Classes have access to computers in their rooms. There are also computers located in the administration area, staffroom and library. Broadband internet connection enhances the speed of web access and encourages staff and students to research and communicate with the local and global community.

Osborne Primary School Parents and Citizens' Association operates in conjunction with the school. The School Council has representatives from both the teaching staff and parent body. Osborne Primary School also has an active Student Council. Consultation between staff, parents and students is encouraged and connections with the school community are a feature of the school.

Regular communication between staff and parents is encouraged. Some of the formal links include semester reports, parent/teacher interview reporting, newsletters, assemblies, notices, pre-arranged interviews and parent information evenings.

Overall:
An old school (over 100 years old now) in a very multicultural area, close to public transport, commerical areas and inner-city. I went to this school over 20 years ago and little has changed within the school itself. My child was also a student at this school, until we recently moved. The Osborne Park area has expanded a great deal over the years with higher density housing than in the past; what was formerly an area rich with market gardens is now a bustling, busy commercial area and retail centre. The school is very small and only has one class per year/grade. As a result, Osborne Primary boasts a tight-knit community, as a school. It was, and still is, a great school and I highly recommend it.Hutton Street, which the school is adjacent to on its western side, is an extremely busy road, although there are traffic wardens and a school crossing here, it is still not the optimum location for a school, in my opinion. Also, the traffic can be rather loud at times. The only other gripe i would have is that the school uniform is not always worn by students. I think everyone wearing a uniform is important to school image and this is not strictly enforced at Osborne Primary.I think Osborne Primary is a fantastic school overall. I enjoyed my years there immensely, as did my child, many years later. I love the old timer floors in the corridors outside the classrom - it gives the school an old-world, rustic feeling.
