| Onslow is a coastal town in the Shire of Ashburton with a population of approximately 800. It is culturally diverse, with the majority of the population from the Thalanyji, Yindjibarndi and Banyjima Aboriginal groups. The main industries that Onslow supports include fishing, salt production and tourism. The school has a student population of around 120 students from 4 year olds to Year 12. Approximately 65% of these students are Aboriginal. The schools location makes it part of the Department of Education's Remote Teaching Service whereby staff are appointed through a merit selection process. Onslow Primary School supports programs that provide equal access for remote students. Literacy, Numeracy and Community Partnerships are the school's priorities. The school will be occupying new, purpose built premises as of October 2005. | ||||
