| INFORMATION ABOUT NULSEN PRIMARY SCHOOL Our Ethos Nulsen Primary School is about valuing who we are. We value diversity, respect our differences and care for each other. Our school recognises all achievements in our students' learning journey. We strive for excellence and celebrate the progress and efforts made along the way. Nulsen PS is built upon collaboration, open communication and supportive relationships. We encourage every person in our school community to get involved with our students in their learning. Our School Community is committed to the Tribes Community Agreements of Mutual Respect, Attentive Listening, Appreciations (No Putdowns), Personal Best and Personal Responsibility and Right to Participate / Pass. These agreements, along with our motto of sincerity and fair play, are guiding principles that underpin our school's operations. Nulsen Primary School (established 1972) is a Level 5 Government school located in Esperance. The name 'Nulsen' was given to the school after Mr Emil Nulsen who served as the MLA for the Esperance region from 1932-1962. Emil Nulsen was noted for his sincerity and fair play with our school adopting these qualities and upholding these values. Our student population in 2007 ranged between 330 and 371, with our current enrolment being 354 students. Our fifteen classes are composed of two Kindergartens, one Kindergarten/Pre-Primary, one Pre-Primary and eleven Mainstream Year 1-7 areas. In 2008, all Education Support students were fully mainstreamed. We strive to meet the needs and interests of our students, who come from diverse background experiences. Our school population is made up of various ethnic backgrounds, including Aboriginal students (31.5%). Many children enter our school well prepared for formal education, however our school does receive some additional resourcing due to its socio-economic index (86.64). Our pastoral care programs have achieved great success in providing a friendly, happy school, which impacts positively on student outcomes. We are constantly acknowledged for our innovative programs that recognise, respond to and accommodate academic, social and cultural diversity within our school community. Our teaching staff are also recognised and appreciated by our educational community, with some nominated for awards such as the Premier's Teacher of the Year. Nulsen Primary School values relationships with students, staff, parent/carers and our wider community. We appreciate the support the students and staff in our school receive from our local Esperance District Education Office and from personnel within the WA Department of Education. We actively foster parent/carer and community involvement in our students' education. To encourage the high involvement and support we received from the whole school community, Nulsen Primary School will continue strengthening its achievements with our active School Council. Their involvement has been extremely pro-active and beneficial to improving the outcomes for students and our school community. Nulsen Primary School's dedicated team of highly professional and committed staff provide an outstanding learning environment for our students and whole school community. | ||||
