| North Merredin Primary School is the original Merredin school celebrating its 100 Year Anniversary in 2007. It is located on the northern side of the Merredin townsite, approximately 260km east of Perth. A high proportion of our students come from farming families with nine bus routes providing transport to and from school. North Merredin PS enjoys a strong educational heritage within the immediate community. North Merredin is staffed by a Principal and Deputy Principal, 10 full time teaching staff and 11 teacher assistants. A Registrar, Gardener, LOTE teacher and Librarian help make up our total staffing. Teacher staffing at the school is stable. Staff are encouraged to take an active role in the many areas of school life, eg curriculum leadership, pastoral care, coordinating student performance information and so on. The school is currently able to offer specialist programs in Information Technology, Music, Art, Bootscooting and LOTE: Italian as well as offering support for students at educational risk. We have recently been able to employ a Learning Support Coordinator who is working hard to make our school a more inclusive place to be. A Getting It Right Literacy Specialist also assists in the areas of inclusivity and supporting students at risk. As well as seeking excellence in the learning areas, students are encouraged to develop skills, attitudes and values that will equip them for a changing world and workforce. The school experiences success both academically and on the sporting field, frequently winning Interschool sporting events. The school has excellent facilities including music room, art room, library resource room, covered outdoor play equipment, two grassed ovals, canteen and under cover assembly area. The library resource room currently houses 31 networked computers al with Internet access and linked to the library automation programme. The classrooms, each housing two computers, are also connected to the network and linked to the library automation system. Internet access is permitted and all children are required to follow a stringent school policy with regard to computer use. The administration at the school uses technology to enhance the daily running of the school. Financial and student information is maintained, stored and often communicated electronically. North Merredin Primary School offers a full curriculum (eight learning areas) to the six primary classes (2 of which are grouped). A well-resourced Pre-Primary operates on site while the Kindergarten program is temporarily delivered at the SMPS off site centre, approximately three kilometres from the main school. In 2007 a new building will be placed on site and the Kindergarten will be located at NMPS. The teaching and non-teaching staff are supported by hard working parents. Community support is encouraged through the many consultative processes operating at the school. Participation is encouraged through the many active consultative processes operating and is evident in many areas; School Council, P & C Association, Canteen Committee, Sports Committee and the Grounds and Building Committee. North Merredin Primary School aims to provide a supportive and enriched educational environment in which students develop understandings, skills and attitudes relevant to individual needs to fulfil their potential and contribute to the development of our society. We believe the success of such an educational program depends on the cooperative efforts of the students, parents/guardian, community and school. The school motto is ADVANCE. In 2006 the school priorities are Writing, Woking Mathematically and Information Technology. As at first semester 2006. | ||||
