| The school is located in the suburb of North Beach and serves a coastal strip including the suburb of Trigg. It is nestled between large playing fields to the south and Star Swamp Reserve to the North. The school also has its own area of bushland adjoining Star Swamp and uses this in its teaching programs. It runs a plant nursery and senior classes are involved in planting seedlings grown in other districts. The school has a principal, one deputy principal and two specialist teachers with approximately 280 children from Kindergarten to Year 7. Within our eight Learning Areas French is taught to children from Years 2 to 7. A music specialist offers a general music program to all classes. Children can have further music experience by either joining the choir or a group of children learning the guitar. As well, through the Department of Education and Training's Instrumental Music Program, clarinet and violin are taught to selected children. A variety of sports are played and there is an emphasis on participation and fitness with daily fitness activities being provided. A Dance program for years 5 to 7 and a Circus program for Years 1 to 4 add to the physical activities options offered. The staff have focussed upon teaching values with the result that there has been a marked improvement in the children's behaviour and attitude to others. This is enhanced by the fact that an Education Support Centre shares the site and the children fully accept the differences that can exist and show a love and caring nature towards those students with special needs and children globally who need support. The buildings are of linear construction. An upgrade of the administration area took place in 1999 and a new covered area was constructed. Currently there is ample classroom space. Computers are available in each classroom, and, as in the laboratory in the library, are networked to give access to the Internet and Intranet. Excellent parent- teacher support is enjoyed at North Beach Primary School and this benefits the children through parent assistance, a presence in the classroom and fund raising events through an active Parents & Citizens' Association. | ||||
