| Noranda Primary School has a large school site set amongst the beautiful garden settings of established homes and the extensive natural bush reserve that adjoins the school. This wonderful natural asset forms the basis of many classroom and school programs including Bush Wardens. The school has the use of a well maintained sports oval shared with community groups under the auspices of the Bayswater Shire. In 2006 Noranda has a total school population of 435. Of this number, 40 are Kindergarten enrolments and 42 Pre-Primary enrolments. Noranda is a relatively stable area with low transience levels, a high degree of home ownership and solid income base. There have been some changes in this demography over more recent years, reflecting changes in society in general. The school is mindful of these changes in terms of its planning and meeting the needs of what is becoming an increasingly diverse school population. Academic performance at Noranda is measured by comparison with State averages and like schools. The School compares very favourably with these measures, with a good proportion of students achieving above benchmarks and achievement targets. Noranda Primary School enjoys a high level of support through both the Noranda School Council and the Noranda Primary School Parents and Citizens' (P & C) Organisation. The P & C is very active and supports the school considerably with the provision of resources and support for events and functions. It has worked jointly with the school in significantly enriching the learning environment for Noranda students. The School Council serves as a key link between the school and wider community. The Council contributes significantly to the school decision-making and strategic planning processes. Areas of special focus are Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Music. We have a well equipped Computer Laboratory and all classrooms are networked, offering the ability to communicate with each other and access the internet as a learning tool. Music has been an area of specialty over several years and our school choir has been highly successful in a range of eisteddfods and public performances. Education is highly valued in the Noranda community. The majority of parents have high expectations of their children and of their school. The school's focus on core learning areas and pastoral care is valued. A whole school approach to student interaction is promoted through the Friendly Schools Friendly Families Program. | ||||
