| The Newborough Primary School was founded in 1955. Since then extensive renovations and extensions have created a pleasant, modern, educational facility, including a purpose built library, an undercover area and excellent early childhood facilities. Extensive lawn areas, large trees and modern playground equipment, are features of the school environment. Adjacent to the school are parkland and a new multi purpose recreation centre. The school has recently been air conditioned. The school has two part time specialist teachers appointed to enhance the programs offered in Music and Physical Education. The school has an enthusiastic choir, which performs at school assemblies, special functions and takes part in outside music festivals and events. Specially identified Year Six and Seven students take part in the School of Instrumental Music programme. The Physical Education programme is also a very important feature of the school. The specialist teacher coordinates school activities and our involvement in interschool sporting events. Newborough School has performed strongly at interschool sporting events. Children from Newborough Primary School have gained scholarships and excelled in a range of sports. The specialist teacher also takes a Perceptual Motor Program. Computers are used in all classrooms and a computer laboratory has been established. All computers are networked and each class has access to the Internet. The school also has additional peripheral equipment and an automated library. The school has a keen environmental focus, with recycling and a tree nursery, being emphasised. A strong link has been forged with the Corrigin farming community and School, as the result of an annual trip to plant trees in the area. The school has an onsite Dental Therapy unit and a school canteen. The canteen operates for three days each week. A private childcare agency runs a centre at the school. The centre operates before and after school each day, other than public holidays The school's Behaviour Management and Development policy is based on the foundation of positive classrooms and a happy, safe playground. The relatively small student numbers at Newborough Primary School help ensure strong pastoral care and the deliberate nurturing of a whole school community. A range of programs is in place to support and develop the core values as outlined in the Curriculum Framework. Programs include 'You Can Do It', 'The Game Factory', 'Friendly Kids, Friendly Classrooms' and the 'Virtues Project'. Staff and parents have worked hard to develop an ethos that ensures Newborough Primary School has a caring, supportive and family environment. Parent support in the classroom is welcomed and encouraged, as is involvement in the full range of school activities including the Parents and Citizens' Association, parent nights, fundraising activities, assemblies and special events. Newborough Primary School has very committed and experienced staff and a strong relationship exists between staff and parents. Shared decision making involving the whole school community, is important throughout the school.
