| Mount Lockyer Primary School Mount Lockyer Primary School is located in the northwest corner of the boundary of the City of Albany. The majority of the school population comes from the immediate Mount Lockyer area. A small percentage of students come from the surrounding rural areas north to Narrikup and west to Denmark. The school was established in 1954 and has gradually been added to over time. We have students Pre-Primary to Year 7 on site. The Mount Lockyer Community Kindergarten, situated approximately 1.5 kilometres from the school, falls under our umbrella with an enrolment of 80 students. Education Support facilities were established in 1993 however we have a full inclusion program operating at the school. The school has a stable, professional and experienced staff committed to quality teaching and learning through an inclusive whole school collaborative approach where all are accountable for whole of school improvement. The dedication and commitment of the staff to school improvement was acknowledged in the school receiving the District Director's Albany Education Aspiring to Excellence award in 2004 and the 2006 District award for the most outstanding school in Aboriginal Education. Individual staff have also been publicly recognised for their contribution to education by being the District winner of the Premiers Teacher of the Year Award in 2004 and 2005. A strong focus for the school is the development of partnerships between the school and the community. We believe that strong links between parents and the wider community support student and school improvement. The school has established strong partnerships with the community through the Aboriginal Parent Group, P&C and School Council resulting in their active involvement and support of the programs operating in the school. Specialist programs operating in the school include Music, Library Studies, Physical Education and LOTE (Japanese). Additional to these we also have a Getting it Right Numeracy Specialist Teacher, Aboriginal Education Specialist Teacher, Education Support Teacher and a Literacy Catch-Up Teacher. The school was one of the first to be included in the 100 School's Learning Technology program and as a result have an extensive computer and telecommunications network which supports learning and teaching. The Lockyer Leapers are our skipping squad sponsored by the Heart Foundation and this dedicated, talented group of students are in high demand for performances across the district. Pastoral Care Programs such as Friends, Massage in Schools, Social Interaction Program and Tribes are implemented to support students social, emotional and physical well being. Mount Lockyer Primary School is a Learning Community proudly striving to provide an inclusive learning environment that caters for the diversity of the students in our care and pivotal to the achievement of this goal is the partnerships we have formed with families, the community and the wider community. | ||||
