| The Mount Hawthorn Primary School was opened in 1906 in a local church hall and moved to the present buildings in 1908. The school has a Federation exterior and is located a short distance from Perth CBD in the suburb of Mount Hawthorn. There has been significant re-development of older residential and business sites and the median price of houses in Mt Hawthorn continues to rise. The school is currently undergoing a local area education planning process with the Mt Hawthorn Education Support Centre and the Mt Hawthorn Junior Primary school, which may result in a change from the present structure. The main features of the school layout include - the library, computer laboratory; classroom computers networked to the curriculum server; Art Room; Music Room; Italian Room; shared Undercover Area/Canteen/PE storeroom with Junior Primary School and Education Support Centre; a reticulated oval and onsite Out of School Hours Care availability. The school population has been rising steadily since 1994 and is now 220 students from Years 4 - 7. The students are motivated and responsive to well-structured and resourced programs, and parents fully support the school and its goals. In 2004 the school is organised with eight classes, Years 4 to 7 being - 2 x Year 4, 2 x Year 5, 2 x Year 6, 2 x Year 7 classes. Specialist programs include - Music (includes a concert band and string orchestra); Physical Education; The Arts (Visual Art); Italian; Information and Communication Technology; Dance; Drama and support for both Talented And Gifted Students and Students At Educational Risk Various integration programs exist with the adjacent Junior Primary School and Education Support Centre. Students also have access to the Internet and e-mail. Excellent printing facilities are available. Staff computers are networked to the main student system, extending to all teaching rooms. The Library is automated and students are able to access library resources. The school uses the School Information System (SIS) Administration Manager and Cash Accounts. Staff participate in the decision making process by acting as representatives on School Council, the Finance Committee, the Professional Development Committee, or as Curriculum Leaders Parents are encouraged to participate in the Parents and Citizens' Association (P & C), the School Council and to give informal feedback through surveys and parent/teacher meetings. Students can represent the student body through being on the Student Council or by acting as Faction Captains. | ||||
